Runes - Not jsut for seaxes anymore.

Hey, this one goes out to all you new runesters out there.

Preface - In the ancient times, rhymes and song were used to help preserve oral tradition in Northern Europe before writing became prevalent. Even after the use of writing, song and rhyme enabled the Sages, Lawspeakers, Gothis and Vitkis to memorize important or vast bodies of information. From this tradition came many rune-poems, which named each rune and then used a few poetic lines to describe its meaning, sound, and symbolism.
Well, in the modern heathen community, we do the same sort of thing, cause funny songs are easy ways to remember the lore.

With that, here is the runesong that our Allshergodthi and a kithman worked up over a few rounds in the alehall:

to the tune of the 'doe, ray, me' song from 'The Sound of Music']
[first verse by Ben Waggoner, rest by Dave Haxton]

Fehu, a cow, a Holstein cow,
Uruz, a great big longhorn bull,
Thur-i-saz, a monstrous giant,
Ansuz, the Gods on high who rule,
Raidho, a journey on your bike,
Kenaz, a torch that you employ,
Gebo, a present that you like,
That will bring you Wunjo, joy, joy, joy, joy . . .

Hagall, a seed, a frozen seed,
Neid, a helm to save your head!
Ice, the ice, the frozen lake
Jer, the turning of the wheel
Yew, a green and growing bough
Perth, "I've won the lotto, wow!"
Elks, the sedge grass oh so fine,
which grows when Sunna shines, shines, shines, shines . . .

Tyr, the god, of Justice high,
Birch, the sauna calls to us!
Ehwaz, a horse, a yearling spry,
Mannaz, a guy, it's just a guy!
Laguz, the lake before the ice,
Ing, the seed sack of the Vans,
Daeg, today is what it is -
All the aetts are our Othal pro-per-ty so ....
