Here at BF we have a lot of requests for what kind of knife to get.

I'm also on Candlepower Forums, where the same thing occurs. To handle this, they have a seperate forum set up, "Recommend Me A Light For..."

Would this work for us?

Just a thought,

Bob

I feel as though we should have a sticky thread in the general knife discussion thread where we group up some of the more common knives in various price ranges with easy access links to the manufacturer site for people to see. So instead of having constant questions we can simply point them to the sticky with the links.

It wouldn't matter, people looking for the latest supper duper Titamium frame lock with a hole in the blade & left side tip down belt clip mounting option will still ask on the traditionals forum.

While it is a great idea in my opinion, the problem is that people in general don't read. New folks and some that have been here a while still think that General knife discussion is the all purpose bucket dumping ground for everything from:

Is Knife Store ABC is a reliable store?
To
Does anyone want to buy my Ninjamatic 2000?
To
What is the best camera for $20?
To What is S30V steel?

If folks actually stopped and read the sticky threads and announcements, or searched google even one time the quality of many posts would increase dramatically I think. Until then, we will continue hiding relevant and important information in the sticky threads.

In thinking about this, one way wou;d be to rearrange the portal to BF. Right now the entry Forum page is a catchall, and General is the most accessible to a...generalist. Or newbie.

On Candlepower, you start at a menu of the possible forums, with "Recommend Me A Light..." coming second, and hence an eyecatcher right up front.
