A few months ago I purchased my first FF knife, a beautiful Bushfinger, off the flea market thread. Well, that knife quickly became my go-to knife for all small knife duties whenever I was anywhere but at work or at home (Seattle no likey fixed blade carry). While the KSF sheath it came with was fine and all, I had been looking for an upgrade for a while.
I had met Nick from Nix Leather at a BK&T knife gathering a few months before, and after meeting him again at the next gathering the talk of a custom sheath came up, with the final result of me placing an order for a custom left-hand dangler for my already favorite knife. After loaning the knife to him for a couple weeks he contacted me and let me know that h̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶h̶o̶l̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶s̶h̶e̶a̶t̶h̶ ̶h̶o̶s̶t̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶u̶n̶t̶i̶l̶ ̶I̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶v̶i̶s̶i̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶h̶i̶m̶ the sheath was ready and waiting for me to pick it up. After hanging with him and picking up my sheath I knew I had made the right decision.
The craftsmanship is impeccable, all hand-made with hand tool and elbow grease, it was impressive to watch as he showed off some of what he does while I was over there. The retention is incredible, only a little stiff when new and now quite smooth both in and out. It is custom fitted to the knife and has rock-solid security with no chance of falling out on its own. The dangler portion is just as secure with well-made snaps that are quite solid and look just as good. Everything from the stitching to the dying to the edge just oozes attention to detail, and makes the overall package something to gaze upon with respect for the work put into it and appreciation for the quality and appearance.
So I've taken it on 2 trips with me now, and have put it through a full regimen of tests and general wear and tear just by carrying it around everywhere in the woods. I've been rained on and sun dried, been out bushwhacking and chilling around the fire, it's been with me the entire time and held up wonderfully.
Nick has been around a while and his work just keeps getting better, I'm glad to own a piece and I'd recommend him and his work to anybody. He's a great guy and a pleasure to hang around, his work is just part of the reason why I own 2 of his sheaths now.
Ok, enough talking, here's the pictures in a generally chronological order of them being taken. It picked up a a scratch near the end of the first trip, which you see in the rest of the pictures, but it gives it character in my opinion.
yeah bacon!
Bonus view of the other one I have from him, it was one he built before the last gathering and one that fit my Guardian3 perfectly so I just had to have it. It's just a great as my Bushfinger's sheath.
