A few months ago I purchased my first FF knife, a beautiful Bushfinger, off the flea market thread. Well, that knife quickly became my go-to knife for all small knife duties whenever I was anywhere but at work or at home (Seattle no likey fixed blade carry). While the KSF sheath it came with was fine and all, I had been looking for an upgrade for a while.

I had met Nick from Nix Leather at a BK&T knife gathering a few months before, and after meeting him again at the next gathering the talk of a custom sheath came up, with the final result of me placing an order for a custom left-hand dangler for my already favorite knife. After loaning the knife to him for a couple weeks he contacted me and let me know that h̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶h̶o̶l̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶s̶h̶e̶a̶t̶h̶ ̶h̶o̶s̶t̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶u̶n̶t̶i̶l̶ ̶I̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶v̶i̶s̶i̶t̶e̶d̶ ̶h̶i̶m̶ the sheath was ready and waiting for me to pick it up. After hanging with him and picking up my sheath I knew I had made the right decision.

The craftsmanship is impeccable, all hand-made with hand tool and elbow grease, it was impressive to watch as he showed off some of what he does while I was over there. The retention is incredible, only a little stiff when new and now quite smooth both in and out. It is custom fitted to the knife and has rock-solid security with no chance of falling out on its own. The dangler portion is just as secure with well-made snaps that are quite solid and look just as good. Everything from the stitching to the dying to the edge just oozes attention to detail, and makes the overall package something to gaze upon with respect for the work put into it and appreciation for the quality and appearance.

So I've taken it on 2 trips with me now, and have put it through a full regimen of tests and general wear and tear just by carrying it around everywhere in the woods. I've been rained on and sun dried, been out bushwhacking and chilling around the fire, it's been with me the entire time and held up wonderfully.

Nick has been around a while and his work just keeps getting better, I'm glad to own a piece and I'd recommend him and his work to anybody. He's a great guy and a pleasure to hang around, his work is just part of the reason why I own 2 of his sheaths now.

Ok, enough talking, here's the pictures in a generally chronological order of them being taken. It picked up a a scratch near the end of the first trip, which you see in the rest of the pictures, but it gives it character in my opinion.

Bonus view of the other one I have from him, it was one he built before the last gathering and one that fit my Guardian3 perfectly so I just had to have it. It's just a great as my Bushfinger's sheath.

That is a good looking sheath that has gotten better over time.

I have noticed that on his sheaths there is "extra" stitching where the point or tip of the knife would be. What's that for?

Extra strength and a maker's mark I believe, Nick would know for sure and he should notice this thread eventually.

I would like to say I do really appreciate this sub forum and all the work you guys put into it, I know I don't post over here a lot but I browse a ton and I absolutely adore my Bushfinger. The knife is a step above everything else I have and I'm glad I got a sheath that matches the high standards.

Thanks & Thanks for the kind words.
The guys here are a awesome bunch & It is a nice thread. You should post up more! We love pics of the knives in use.

The sheath is crap... only because it isn't mine! ;)

I like the sheath design - and I like that he makes the stitching his own by doing the X stitches at the base. His edging is very well done and the sheath will obviously be with you for years to come. Bomb proof for sure.

Great picture thread - thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics. What steel is your bush finger? Just curious.

Loved the pics my friend. Thats a hell of a month of outdoors time. I wish I got that much. It is always so good to see someone using their knives. Thanks for posting, it made my morning.

From the spalting, and none of the pics focus on this so I could be wrong, but it looks like 01 to me.

Great post YoungMC!
Your thoughts and review are well put together.
I'm glad Nick's sheaths are getting the recognition they truly deserve.
I have 5 sheaths from Nick and I can echo you sentiments on each and every one.
My Bushfinger and Bushcrafter Jr. sheaths might be my favorites.

Great post Matthew and awesome set-up. That sheath is well-suited to the knife and should last a lifetime together.

The RidgeTop Red is a favorite of mine as well, be sure to stop at their restaurant if you're ever in Silverdale.

Thanks :)

I'll be heading over to Seabeck for a vacation later this summer for sure, I'm most definitely stopping in Silverdale on the way. They do good brews, I have many favorites of theirs.

Great thread my brother!!! I love my NixKustoms sheathes! Here is my humble collection...

Damn King! I had no idea that you'd do such an awesome and flattering write-up!! I really don't know what to say but thank you for all the very kind words! I'm very happy to see that you're using it and not afraid to abuse it. That always makes me smile seeing them being used and enjoyed. And I'm sorry it took me sooo long to make that for you and that I made you come up for dinner, beers, and a generally awesome time. ;)

Thank you again for the amazing write-up and equally awesome pictures!!

Thanks Vance. Both sheaths are relatively new. I dye them in such a way that makes them look a little worn and weathered.

The extra stitching at the tip is for a little extra strength and aesthetics. It's also kinda my makers mark. I've been doing that for a while.

Thanks for the kind words! I've also been told that one could beat a zebra to death with one of my sheaths. I'm pretty sure that's a compliment. Haha. Regardless I try my best to build them to last. I've been making for close to 6ish years now and I've never had anyone send a sheath back for any repair work.

And thank you Jonny and abrasion for posting those awesome pictures too!

I figured it had been long enough to give a review without it sounding fabricated. It really is my favorite sheath and my favorite knife (don't tell the Beckerheads that ), couldn't ask for a better pairing.

I'm not a fan of "out of the box" reviews. I mean how can one tell how well an item will preform without using it.

I have a couple Fiddlebacks that need more use/testing before I can say one way or the other if it would be a "go to" knife for me.

Like I said amazing, will thought out, and flattering review! Thank you!!
