I stumbled across this new design from Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works today and it reminds me of a more basic version of the ATAX tool.
What do ya think, anyone see themselves using something like this ?

Absurdly thick at .25”. I can think of no justification for that. And I dread to imagine the mess it would make of basil, you'd be better off tearing it.

honestly I don;t see much there that you couldn;t also do with a tomahawk head,
plus add a shaft and its even better.

Oh yes--I agree! Hence the 'hawk head being greater than the "more basic ATAX." :)

Technically I guess there's a syntax error, so it should read:

More basic = no lashing points

no lashing points < tomahawk head

∴ More basic < tomahawk head

I don't know why, but I kinda want one.
I cannot think of much it would excel at, but it would still cut things in the kitchen. It could act as a sort of "push cleaver", I guess.
In the woods, it'd be better than nothing, but not something I'd purposefully carry.

The next thread that starts up when someone wants a recommendation on a fighting knife, well, that's what this looks like to me, Pit....

I agree - I'd rather have a bearded hawk and a 6" long piece of handle (in addition to the standard 19" long one) for chopping/dicing chores.

That's really the only value I see. It would be awful to chop with... all of the momentum and shock would be in your arm. Doesn't look like it would be worth a crap for skinning.

I could see value for fighting, though, if you were accustomed to the style.

Not for me. Chances are I would end up cutting myself with that contraption.
