Found these guys about 20 yds from the shop

I have a bad, BAD time with little guys like this ......... can't help but fall in love with them :o :o

I know - I've been a trapper since I was a young boy. Caught more beaver, otter, fisher & mink than you could care to count.
Now ?? Couldn't tell you what happened but at 49 I'm a big softy

These guys are so tiny they're falling all over each other just trying to walk.
Funnier than heck !! :D They were right at our feet.

My daughter and I counted 7 little ones :foot:

They're adorable! I have never seen a live skunk. :(
I've heard they make great pets, once you de-gland them.

Great pictures I trapped for years myself but there is something about age that makes you approach to things begin to be different.
Years ago the wife and I walked up on a skunk feeding in the grass, while out for a walk with my dog. I think it was digging bugs out of the ground and eating them.
The dog was real obedient and I made her sit beside me. We were within 12-15 ft. My wife had never seen a skunk in the wild and proceeded to try and get closer. :eek:The skunk proceeded to throw up its tail and do its little dance. I told her to stop. For once she listened to me!
The skunk could smell us I guess but did not seem to know exactly where we were. I don’t think there eyesight is good at distance but don’t quote me on that!
Anyway after I got the wife to back off again and the skunk calmed down and we watched it feed till the dog finally started getting antsy. I told the dog if you grab that skunk I am leaving you here and that looked like a good point to continue the walk!

Sometimes its appropriate to dump a few pics...

Good ones Rick :D As a kid I loved watching Pepe on Saturday morn ;)

Phillip, like we say with our knives ...... pics just don't do them justice ;) These little guys are 10 times as cute as the pics show.

Their actions are so comical. The den is on a small hillside which had them rolling down the hill, bumping into each other, tipping over backwards & sideways, They were like 7 little drunks :D

I've had quite a few encounters with skunks over the years too. Some good - some not so good .............. for me, or the skunk ;)

Regarding their eyesight, I've come to the same conclusion. They have very beady little eyes.

:)

Good lord Dave. Skunks! :barf:

Get a cat man.

My step-son's best friend works at a security gig in Spokane. Apparently a couple weekends ago he was so bored that he was looking around and saw a cat he dicided needed a friend. He started following it and calling, "here kitty, kitty, kitty" until it got under a parking lot light and he saw that is was a pretty black kitty with the white stripe. I guess he was able to carefully back away to a safe distance.

On another note, our pastor, for reasons I can't remember, has no sense of smell (although he claims there's nothing wrong with his sense of taste  ). Apparently he was out hunting or working cows or whatever a few years ago and got sprayed by a skunk. Had no clue. Couldn't figure why all the other guys wouldn't let him up to the campfire...

:o

I tell ya Nathan, there's so many different critters running around here you just never know whats going to show up.

I was sneaking around down near the Kelsey Creek a couple days ago when out of nowhere came a Pine Marten (Sable) chasing a Red Squirrel through the tree tops. Literally

Talk about an aerial, gymnastic like chase

The Marten chased the squirrel out of my sight so I never did see whether or not he lived through the ordeal.
Hard to imagine being able to notice facial expressions but I swear the squirrels eyes were the size of saucers
He had that "deer in the headlights" look of panic  ......... and rightly so

Skunks, I've found......... are a lot like people. Individuals. Some will spray at the drop of a hat while others (most in fact) will take a lot of ribbing before they cut loose.

When they do, it's a wicked, sickening smell

I can fully understand why the crew wouldn't let him near the fire ;)

Yes, PEW !! ;)

I think they're cute as heck (especially your group David!) I just don't like that stuff they like to spray out after the tail dance. lol ;) Got sprayed when I was about 7 and that really sucked!

I walked out of the shop this time last year and had one standing about 4 feet from me. His tail shot straight up, but he never did turn around...he just watched as I CAREFULLY backed away. :D

This vid makes me laugh every time ;) :D I have a cat that goes into "crazy cat" mode and runs around just like this, so to see a pet skunk do it is just plain funny :)

FWIW, I checked on the skunk burrow yesterday and it looks like they've been evicted

YES !!! Thank GOD !!

I really didn't want to have to "deal with em" ....... now what I mean ;)

I had to look up "Pine Marten". We don't have those around here. And I'm kind of glad actually. It would be one more thing to eat my cats. I wish stuff would quit eating my cats...
