A mouse looked through the
crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

"What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered -
he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard,
the mouse proclaimed the
warning.

"There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap
in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and
said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you
but it is of no consequence to me.
I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a
mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said,
"I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse,
but there is nothing I can do about it but pray.
Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a
mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse.
I'm sorry for you,
but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected,
to face the farmer's mousetrap-- alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house --
like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the
darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake
whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer's wife.
The farmer rushed her
to the hospital and she returned home with a fever.
Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup,
so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's
main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued,
so friends and neighbors came
to sit with her around the clock.
To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.
So many people came
for her funeral, the farmer
had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern
you, remember --
when one of us is threatened,
we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life.
We must keep an eye out
for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

EACH OF US IS A VITAL
THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY;

OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.

The moral to this story is,
"one of the best things to hold onto
in this world is a friend".

First I thought it was a moose story then when I read it I thought life is really very complicated in Maine !!.....Here in simple NY I saw , very briefly, a creature that I couldn't identify, but someone has seen an otter in the area. I'll have to ask my neighbors if they still have fish in their ponds !

Robert you can always shoot it and eat it, :) let me know if it tastes like chicken :D

Just don't eat the tail as I hear it is one of the most unpleasants meats around and makes mutton look like fillet mignon.;)

A few days later I talked to someone who had seen an otter about a mile up the river so I guess I was right .They must be on the increase.

Mete, Several years ago I saw a rat down by the water front in Portland, Oregon that wasn't much smaller than an otter. What you may have seen was one of the obese rats that has eaten junk food all its life.

Raymond , you're referring to a 'Norway rat' I assume ,with bodies 12" long. We have those in NYC .Here we have a wood rat [?] which is only 5" long.My friends sighting was positive and the Ranger [NPS] has stated they're here though limited. What I saw had a chocolate brown body at least 24" long. "American River Otter" My neighbor has a pond and said his fish are still there but not all of them !!

You got any of these around? http://www.nsrl.ttu.edu/tmot1/myoccoyp.htm There pretty common around here. They were brought in around here years ago as a fur animal and I guess the market fell and most that raised them let them go. I saw one in my area not to long ago but in some parts they have become a real pain.

I think it's too cold for nutria here.

I think they still have 'em up there, just when you get away from the border states they call 'em muskrats. I've seen both and couldn't tell you the difference.

We have eagles here all the time .Last spring I saw an eagle with a stick about 8' long [as long as his wingspan !] to build or add to his nest. Funny thing is that they keep adding [Bob Vila complex] till sometimes the whole thing collapses from the weight !
