I bought one of the Schrade 152s that popped up on the big auction. Blade and sheath USA production and black wood handles installed in China.

Here are the pics:

I shot several pics and could only get Photo Bucket to upload 2 of them. (I hate the way PB works these days!!)

My first impression was this is a dainty little thing. The handle is very slim and I have big paws, it doesn't feel good in my hand. As far as sharp out of the cardboard sheath I would rate it as so so. I can do much better.

The sheath is of quality construction and much thicker than the Taylor OT I bought a few years ago by mistake. I do believe the sheath is US production, its more in line with current Case offerings.

Now the ugly: The handles rattle. You can't really see a gap in them but shake the knife and hear the rattle. In my experience a knife shouldn't rattle :barf:

I am very underwhelmed to say the least. This could be a good pattern for me if it was better executed. I would like a beefier handle that was properly installed. I won't buy anymore Schrade knives that weren't finished in NY. It is a true shame that they are gone :(

I paid $27 to my door for it.

You might want to go to the forum area of knife makers and see if you can find someone to rehandle your knife. Stag or bone would be nice and you could get them to make the handle thicker.

It is a post circa-2001 blade for a limited or special edition, but you likely surmised that. Given your displeasure with the covers, I'd second the suggestion that you have a maker/embelisher install some beefier covers the right way with correctly sized rivets or pins. Have the same maker put a razor edge on it while he is at it. Also, if you will search, I believe I recently saw a lot of sets of stag handle blanks precut and bookmatched for these at not a bad price per pair. Of course if you keep throwing money at an unacceptable aftermarket finished stock knife, pretty soon you could just buy a custom and be done with it. I would be curious to see how these RH test.

By the way, when your photohosting site gives you fits, go over to tinypic.com and upload there.

Those are nice Codger! I have a Case Ridgeback that I like but want a real Schrade Sharp Finger. I will get one to scratch the itch, very soon I hope! This knife may end up in a St Jude charity auction. I see no need to spend more money on it.

Understood. Out of curiosity I just ran my custom eBay search for Sharpfingers and it returned 175 results. These include knives like yours, Taylor's christmas ornaments, TBLLC knives, 154OT, 158OT, an odd 15OT or two but still many originals in every condition. If you don't mind, try uploading the missing pictures here thru tinypic. I'd like to see more detail of the handles.

Tinypic worked, Thanks!

There are several on ebay now. I've found the one I really want and will snipe it.

Codger do you use your 152 for gutting?

I can use it for the entire process. From start to finish. I have only ever slightly tipped one many years ago whe nI was not careful enough in disjointing the lower legs. That is the only problem I have had with one. When you handle it enough, you will appreciate it's utility. Let me know if you don't have a sniper program yet.

Thanks Codger!

After coonfingering this knife a couple of days I see why this pattern was/is so popular. I have a fix for the loose handle, this may end up as a user.
