A new 371?

Saw a 371 at the W-Mart yesterday, with brown jigged bone handles. Looked really good. Is this a limited time Christmas Season edition, or a new standard production version? I saw it in Mississippi (the state of, not the river of) is it a regional version? I have not seen it in the w-marts up north.
I didn't have the money to buy it, hope to get one next year, provided I can find it again.

I purchased one last month at my local Walmart (St Louis). I think it's a neat knife for $20. No complaints about finish and the blades have pretty good snap. Can't say if it's permanent in the lineup, it does not show up online but locally it seems to have replaced the blue/black G10 371 Stockman on the shelves. The model code on the box ends in -WM and that makes me think it's a Walmart exclusive. Other jig bone slip joints have been on the Walmart shelves previous years. There was also a neat little 375 Deuce with smooth black scales I purchased at the same time. I took some quick pics of my 371. The build date was in June of this year.

It's a WM exclusive, but I have no plans to do away with it any time soon. It will be around for a while.

Some of the early overseas 300 series had really nice scales, at a distance they could fool you into thinking they were US knives.
I know some of you collect this model series so eventually ITE will have to have a Sunday Picture show for you and then you guys can impress us like certain people did the last two Sundays.

emw479, It's nice to see that you do pop in here once in awhile. You do not have messaging or email enabled in your profile so I'll ask here. Can you tell me what the handle material is on the 375 Deuce with the smooth black scales? Any plans for that handle material on some of the other 370-380 series knives? Thanks. /Roger

Happy to hear it will be around for a while. It is going to be a couple months before I can afford to buy one. (taking home time to almost southern most Florida is expensive; takes on average two to three weeks to get back to running steady. No less than truck load expedited freight out of Florida. (I drive a box truck) I need to get the bills caught up before I can buy another knife.)

Roger, the handle material is black Pakkawood laminate.

I do need to enable messaging on my profile, thanks for the suggestion. I try to check in here a few times a week and I usually end up in the Buck forum. As of right now I plan to keep the patterns and handle materials I'm currently using on the 389, 375, and 371. I might switch around between jigged bone and black Pakkawood on the different models, but I don't plan on bringing the black G10/blue rubber inlay back any time soon. A major focus for me moving into next year is to add more American-made buck pocket knives to the mix. You heard it here first.

emw479, Is a matching set (sold separately) of Buck 110, 371, 375, and 389 with the brown jigged bone, or smooth yellow G10 a possibility?

Adding the 110 in with the others gets the price up there where I'd have a difficult time selling it up my chain to get approval. That wouldn't even matter though, because I know that CJ would never approve of selling Chinese knives in the same package as the 110. We're to the point that Post Falls is running 24/7 to keep up with demand for American made products, so I'd much prefer an American made pocket knife set. We have a few ideas in the works but nothing involving a 110 just yet.

emw479, forgive me for not catching it earlier, but what's your connection with Buck?

It's just that you have 44 posts, been a member for a year, and seem to be "in the know" but I missed your creds.

Not doubting your info, but in referring to Buck, you use "I" and "we" quite a bit.

Thanks

To contribute to the thread, here are a couple of jigged 303s.

I meant to say "... each sold separately)"
Oh well. It was a thought. My EDC is a Buck 110, along with a 301/371 (my 371 has the G-10 handle) and a 389 canoe.
I'd like matching handles, but oh well, probably not going to happen.

I'm glad I heard it. Thank you.

I like that 371 too. I won't miss that black and blue either. Keep up the good work.

I'm the knife buyer for WM. When I'm usually on here, the most positive discussions of Walmart typically coincide with discussions about Buck Knives, so I'm happy to participate.

Awesome to have you along. Thanks for clearing that up.

Maybe you could get me in contact with the home furnishings purchaser @ WM. :)

Gee, I kinda liked them and acquired all 4. Unique bolster made of stainless instead of the usual nickel silver and a real G10 handle. To each their own.

Good knife, and my first G10 handle. Mine shares the pocket with a Colt carbon steel canoe, which also has G10 covers. :)

I knew you guys were out there. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It just never did anything for me. Perhaps if there was SS on each end.

I'm glad you liked it.

An update.
The boss bought me the brown jugged bone 371 for Christmas.
I think Buck and Walmart done hit the ball out of the park with this one.
The shape of the spey is still just a wee bit off from the 301's, but nothing I cannot live with.
Fit anf finish is immaculate. No gaps, even under a strong light. Good pull on all the blades, about the same as a 301's.
This 371 has displaced the 301 from my pocket.
emw479, is a 389 canoe with the brown jigged bone in the realm of possibility? I carry both the 301/371 and 389, would love to have matching handles.
