a friend of mine found a old khukri sitting in his garage, and wife ordered it GONE as it looks like it was involved in a murder of a m00se or other animal... it's just rusty. at first glance, it's unusual to me, the handle is some kind of antler - it has a flinty appearance, and inner color i've not seen before. it also is a "balance blade", it magically balances on a finger or pencil without effort. the pins in the handle are decorative mostly, though two of them distinctly give the impression of being through the tang. as well, is the butt end, which is a poorly cast lion, with a tang peen through. over all, it looks like a tourist model of some kind, there's no markings, but hey, it was free. i think i'll sand it down and oil it to remove the rust. not sure what i can do to, with the handle or the rest of it. the scabbard is trashed. could use some new leather, but to what purpose? it'll be a while before i ponder what if anything to do with this.

and that's all folx

As you say, a tourist model. I'd take one too if it was free. :) The handle is horn I think. Old horn looks like that, kind of delaminating. Clean the rust off, oil the blade, put some mineral oil, hooflex, or lanolin on the horn and you've got a nice display piece.

Just don't try using it. Save that for your HI pieces.

It looks enough like the one that I have buried in my workroom to be its twin. Mine looks like it would disintegrate in my hand if I hit a piece of wood with it.

I had one like that and mine was marked with a nail punch, 'Made in India'. It was huge and made from lorry spring. I got rid of it at auction. It had no edge at all, although the steel was OK.

One of these was my first. (We always remember the first.) It was dead soft - not hardened at all. I still have it, although the scabbard "died" years ago.

A week ago, a friend brought his to a meeting. Lion butt, punched floral decoration, and punched "India" -- the usual. We tried it out. It was surprisingly good. Nice convex edge and held it OK on some old sycamore. The balance seemed way off, however, and the handle was too slender by far for me.

In the past folks here and elsewhere would discuss "cho creep", and that khuk definitely has "cho creep".............. LOL! ;)
