A New Chopper

I just finished this chopper a couple days ago. It was made to enter into the KITH (Knife in the Hat) over in the shop talk forum. This knife was really fun to make and it comes just after I was able to learn a ton of stuff from Burt when he was here visiting. I'm not saying it compares to the awesomeness of Burt's work but I will say that I feel it's my best piece to date and it was a ton of fun to make and even more fun to hold and test out when I was done. The blade was forged from recycled truck spring and is 10 1/4 inches long. The handle has a brass guard with coyote wood and is 5 1/4 inches long. The riveted pin is mild steel and the thong tube is copper. OAL is 15 1/2 inches. It's gonna hurt to give this one away but I hope whoever gets it will use the heck out of it. (The sheath and tomahawk were made by me as well. Tomahawk not included in the KITH exchange)

Thats nice Mike looks like it's ready to chop

Hey Dave,
Speaking of chopping I just watched your JS test video on youtube. Great job! You should post a pic of the test piece. (maybe you have already) Either way I'd love to see it.

Mike,

Good job, there. That one looks right over-all and in detail.

John

Thanks for the kind words John. I tried hard to pay attention to detail. Even though there are many things to improve on I was generally happy with this one.

when I saw the title of this thread just now I knew I'd be happy when I saw what was inside, and I was right!
As usual:D;)

That's a great looking knife Mike. Guess you don't need me anymore now that Burt's your new best buddy. That always happens, Burt comes along, steals my friends then they don't talk to me anymore. I am hard to get a hold of.

I want one of those knives. I think we should trade.

Mike,
Thats a sweet looking beast! I can see both the Knight and Foster influences in there, and you pulled it all together very nicely. somebody is going to be very happy to hang that on their belt. Keep it up!

Adam-

by the way, love your logo.

That's a good lookin' knife. I really like the facetted guard to handle. It really suits the material well. Nice work!

Mike,

Yeah, beautiful knife! I think you should send me one and I can test it for you - you know, just to offer my expert critique. :D:D:D

Thanks gentlemen for all the kind words. I really appreciate you all taking the time to look and to comment. Your words are very encouraging to me. I've been inspired by so many here and owe much to all the folks who post WIP's, and offer advice.
You guys are awesome.
Mike
