KatClaws and I just adopted a young shepherd mix from Lost Angels, a local rescue group. :) His name is Dudley (not our choice, but that's OK) ;) and I'll get some pics up soon. I've taken several, but they are apparently too large, so I'll have to edit them.

Dudley apparently spent the first year of his 18 months in a boarding kennel, having been abandoned by his onwer. He was rescued by a staff member, and spent several months in foster care with a very nice lady, who was dedicated to rehabbing him. He is still shy and a little skittish around people, but is very friendly and sociable with other dogs and cats. (a MUST for our household!) He is overwhelmingly affectionate after he warms up to you, but our cats are still eyeing him suspiciously.

After losing my boy Code, I really wanted another dog, but I wanted to wait until we had bought a bigger place first. Oh well- "plan B" -Dudley is in our home, hearts and lives now, and we get the joy of getting to know another great dog a little sooner than expected.

He is about half Code's size, and not likely to get much bigger. He needs a LOT of trainning on lead, and work on some basic commands, but thank goodness he's already housebroken. :D

Another adventure begins... :)

Congratulations on your new buddy.

Be sure to include him in your khukuri adventure pictures.

Thats Great, Mac !!!!
Always great to hear about sweet souls getting loving homes.
Since he's so small....then you need to get another one. :p

Here are a few. I'm sure many more will follow:

That's a good looking pup! Congrats and I wish you many happy adventures together. All 4 of ours are resuce and they are our family's best companions. So was the one who recently died of cancer. The joy and love these animals bring makes life all the more worth living.

That dog is adorable, I've got to say. Good luck with the dog, man. Peace.

what a handsome boy -- looks like a great friend that has found a forever home

Whew! Transition issues with the pooch. Inappropriate chewing, peeing and pooping.:eek: It's all good, though, we're just still trying to figure each other out. :)

Poop in his bed and chew on his stuff....that'll teach im' ;) :D

Got a crate?

if not, get one.

Best, without question, non-aggressive training tool for working with a dog, of any age.

Seriously, google training with one...stuff of 100% conversions by folks who thought of them as a "prison."

:)

Yay! One whole week with no peeing or pooping in the house! Chewing is still a huge issue, though.

Kismet- we have a crate, but are not finding much CONSISTENT info on training with them. We're just kinda "feeling our way" through it. He is doing better in every other aspect of learning to live with us, though- and KatClaws loves the fact that he is a total sweetheart. VERY affectionate.

Here he is scouting out a Khuk workout with me- a double-trunked oak toppled by a storm a few weeks ago:
