The picture is a little bright for me to see clearly, but the case says New Standard, and I can make out the flat machined surface, so it is indeed a New Standard/New Improved model, great score:thumbup: I have a gold uncased version and it is one of my favorite razors. If you look in the inside of the head there will be a serial number, if you can make it out you can get a very accurate production date, but they were produced from 1919-1929.

It would appear that you are coming down with a bad case of RAD, and the only know cure is to pack that razor up and send it to me for proper disposal:p

Ok, thank you. I found a site which with has very good photos and it dated it to 1921. Then looking up the serial number put mine at early spring of 1921 (Feb. or March). It held one blade (a Perssona)in its small box which I figured was dull from banging around in its box for sometime. So, I stropped it first on canvas, then leather and lastly newspaper then shaved with it. Though it was a close shave it was also a more agressive shave than my Gillette Super Speed but other blades will fit. DM

Yes, pretty much any modern DE blade will fit. I guess I should have mentioned that it is the most aggressive razor I own. After a few shaves in a row with the New Standard, the Super Speed feels about as aggressive as a cotton ball. Right now my preferred blade is an Israeli Persona Red.

Thanks. I noticed these Persona blades are thicker with a wider hollow ground edge bevel. This helps in shaving and the steel is of a good grade and heat treat seems to be well done. DM

Very nice condition, did you pay much for it? I know I over paid for mine, $65 no case, but I had been looking for a year for one and had no luck so when I did see one I jumped on it. I am happy with my purchase though so I guess I didn't really pay too much:o

I gave a little less than that but I offered and they said yes. So, what do I know. At that moment I didn't know much about these razors. I knew it looked old, my wife was with me as I examined it and she wanted me to get it. I told her I thought it was from the late 20's thats when she made a move and I took her by the arm. We chatted for a moment as the owner looked on. They had another knife on the table that I wanted so we did a bundling deal. I was actually happy with the shaves from my F. Bannister straight and Gillette Super Speed DE. Yet, this will be a family heirloom one my Grand Father could (should ) have passed down to me. It gives good shaves. Thanks. DM
