A new high, or low, for a classic.

Okay, I'm a champion for the classic, the little knife that can. I've used the one on my keyring for everything from fixing a sticking door, to fixing the clothes dryer, to putting together a bunch of candle holders for a wedding. But today was a new high.

Or low as it may be.

I was down at the V.A. hospital in D.C. and I used the mens room. Since I was down in the basement enroute to the x-ray dept, it was a mens room that was kind of out of the way. So, into a stall I go.

Little while later I reach for toilet paper, and lo and behold, the holder is empty. It's one of those dual holders with a semi smoked grey plastic cover, and I could see two more rolls that were stored there. Only problem was the casing was locked. So apparently only the janitor has the key to reload the toilet paper roles. I'm in an awkward situation.

I yell, nobody there. I look at the keyhole in the top of the toilet paper container and I see the key slot looks kind of wide. With no other option, I take out my classic and open the SD tip nail file. Reaching into the keyslot, I can feel a mechanisim, and I fiddle around, and then feel a spring resistance. So I push and twist the classic SD blade, and theres a pop, and the plastic cover pops open. I reload both empty toilet paper rolls and then I can get out of there.

A new low for the classic, getting acsess to toilet paper.

It seems that at least once a day I use this little thing for something.

Is there no end to what the SD nailfile blade can be used for?

No end indeed sir. I have not carried a classic on my keys for quite some time now but I do carry a MiniSwissBuck (Wenger Mini Tool Chest). I really like the awl. I have been trying to get my wife to carry a classic for six years now and as close as I have come is her keeping a Wenger Nail Clipper MT in her car. Oh well maybe I will send this story to her and she will change her mind.

Jackknife, I just told your story to my wife, who is not really a knife person. She said a woman would have done the same thing with a bobby pin. It's hard to impress her. I was impressed though, luckily you had that classic. Imagine if you'd had a Farmer, you would of had to saw through the divider wall to get to to the roll in the next stall. Ok, maybe not. Good story. :)

Women under 80 still wear bobby pins? My 85 yr old Polish grandma used to wear bobby pins when she did her hair for church, or weddings. She passed away in 2003. Last time I saw a bobby pin.

Yes, she said if she had her purse with her she should have a bobby-pin and still uses them occasionally. We're old school. She also carries a paper clip (for coupons). I just reminded her of the Vic Midnite Manager I gave her that she keeps in her purse. She could use that if she remembered it was there.

There's many times she leaves her purse at home, since I always have keys, credit card, etc.

I have used my classic for this exact same purpose, Carl. I also have learned to check for TP before sitting down.:o:D

You just confirmed how essential a vics classic for EDC! i used to think that its useless since its to small.. But lately i found its awesomely useful becouse its so light and small! How ironic.

They don't call it a classic for nutt'n! I have about 5 that I regularly rotate along with my other EDC knife du jour. You just can't beat it for functionallity. Heck, I even use the toothpick!

Well, it sure beats the hell out of using the knife itself for TP. Seriously thou, I will not even leave my house without a SAK. There is no limit to their usefulness. I have carried them for more than 40 years now, and will no doubt continue until death.

That's what the multi-purpose spatula thingy is for on the swiss champ:p
