Eduardo Berardo of Brazil just sent me pictures of this
just finished beautiful hunter with an integral guard.
Blade length is 8".

Hope you guys like it!

All the best,

By the way Dr. D, is it a fighter or a hunter? Looks more like a hunter to me.

Yes, Jeff,

As in the post itself, it is a HUNTER... The title has been corrected.... :)

THANKS and all the best,

another Randall-esque knife! What a beauty, that steel is wicked. I wonder how he made it?
As for it being a hunter, well maybe a mammoth hunter!

I usually avoid debates about labels like the plague, but I see more fighter here. Imagine a symmetrical double-guard on that beauty and I think there would be no debate. Blade length seems to take it out of the usual hunter category as well.

Also, in the photos I got via e-mail the steel looked blued. While normally I tend to prefer non-blued blade steel, I have to say it looked particularly striking with the tones in this ivory handle.

I definitely dig this knife.

Roger,

I removed the blue cast before posting for Eduardo...
The blue cast is only an artifact of unbalanced lighting.

And, I wrote what Eduardo stated in his email. My sub conscience
created the slip in the original title where I typed Fighter....
But maybe you missed that.... :)

All the best,

Roger,

I have been to a show here in Brazil where Berardo gave a lecture on knife design and used a few pictures of his own knives as examples, that´s why I know he considers it a hunter design. The guard and the choil are designed to use a forward finger if there´s need to it (as for in skinning) but the knife has size and weight to be used as a utility/camper if need comes to it.

The steel is not HOT blued. Berardo uses some sort of oxide on the blade. What it does is to get into the lower layers after an etch, leveling everything up and creating a lot of contrast. That´s why it looks blue. Berardo never uses hot blueing the blade as it often may take away some of the blade hardness.

I'm with Roger, at about 13" OAL it's stretch calling it a hunter? But it's Eduardo's knife, he can call it what he likes. I'll just call it beautiful. :D :)

I have been admiring that ivory every since I first opened up the e-mail today. Nice work on the photos David.
