A new inexpensive folder I've been playing with

Not typically a knife I'd be drawn to, the chisel shaped blade really interested me as not only an EDC but as a woods knife. I was also happy to see Micarta for the handle. These are really well rounded and shaped, probably the most comfortable folder I've ever held.

The tip didn't come very sharp, which is great for prying. But I wanted to use it more as a chisel so I sharpened it up. It's very easy to palm the handle and use it like a hand chisel now. It will be handy for all kinds of daily tasks for sure, but it makes a great wood carver too. And the LAWKS system really adds a vault like feel to the lock. It's built like a tank without being overly heavy. You would really have to break the pivot pin to get it to fold up on you.

I also like the utility look of it, it looks more like a tool than a knife which is always good in a knife paranoid environment. I have been carrying this for a few days and have enjoyed prying and gouging on stuff that I wouldn't normally do with a folder. Oh yeah I should also mention that it costs a whopping $38!!! Duh, I forgot to mention the name, it's the CRK&T folding Razel. Anyway, I look forward to getting more time in the woods with it and will post more in use pics.

huh... that is pretty cool looking... i like it... it definitely has a utility look to it... similar to traditional japanese tools.. the blade edge also looks like it has a bit of a belly to it too...

Yeah the edge has a nice sweep to it, it looks straight at first glance but it's not. I have to admit it's kind of ugly :o But getting it in hand and using it makes all the difference in the world.

I have been covetting one of the fixed blade razels for quite a while...I was thinking about the 3" Ringed Razel. I was thinking it would be good for carving. I even posted a while back to see what others thought. Not a lot of people had used them, but those who had really seemed to like them.

Nice review. Thanks for the info.

I really like the way that looks. Something about the "tool look" that appeals to me. Do you have any pics of the lock bar? I know in the past CRKT has used some really thin steel for their locks.

Actually the lock bar looks pretty thick. It's beefier than other more expensive folders that I've owned. I'll try and snap a pic of it.

This is the only time you've ever posted a knife that I don't like and don't want, and its affordable... Go figure....

LOL. I'll be sure and post more customs that cost more and that you will want to spend money on, you can still count on me :D

I live in Cleveland, TN where they work and have had the pleasure of learning from them. Great guys. I also got to see the first prototypes of that knife. Gonna have to get me one of those. The Razel blade design is great for edc and really can do a lot more than it appears.

Great to see it in production.

I've had one of the fixed blade Stubby Razels for a while now. It's an incredibly handy tool. I didn't know the folders were out yet, so thanks for waking me up!

I'm glad to hear that they are using a decent lock bar on them since there is the chance that a person would use it like a chisel. I wouldn't want to think of the damage one would cause if it folded up on you.

if it didn't have that clip on it, then i couldn't imagine anything about it i would personally like better than a 110...HOWEVER i can totally see how it would be great as an urban EDC and i will probably pick one up....geez i wish those bucks had a clip, i might be able to walk away from more folder purchases
