It's been a rough week lobstering and i am feeling it in my joints. I went for some advil tonight and in the utility draw where we keep it I found an old little knife. I have known it was there for a while. It was one of the knives that belonged to the girl's grandfather. I don't know the make, it has no markings on it anywhere except for U.S.A on the ricasso. It is about the size of a peanut, slim and light. The handle scales appear to be celluloid. The bolsters are stamped from sheet metal and one is missing. There is a lanyard hole or a hole that once accomodated a bail on the other end. I asked her if i could have it and she said sharpen it and use it. :) I threw some mineral oil in the joint to loosen it up, cleaned some crud out it and snapped a quick cell phone photo before I take it to the stone. The blade is almost black with patina.

here is a pic... enjoy :)

Hi,

A nice little score! It kind of reminds me of a Novelty Knife Co. I have a couple of their little jack style knives. Mine have Roy Rodgers and Hop Along Cassidy scales. The tangs are stamped simply stamped USA.

it's funny. this was probably a gas station or general store knife that sold for pennies in its day. Now when you see knives in gas stations they look like an alien designed them, the quality is on par with junk, the blade (if they remembered to put a grind on it) doesn't hold an edge, locks don't lock, clips don't clip... this little guy has good carbon steel blades and although it is still a little sticky, i think the action will smooth out with carry and use. The backspring is still kind of gunked up and rusty but nice and strong still. They definately don't make cheap knives like they used to :)
