I have a 108OT that up until recently I had carried as an EDC. After years of use and at times misuse, time had taken its toll. I had managed to round the tip of the sheepsfoot, break the tip off of the clip and rust and grime had found its way into the inner workings of the knife. I like to think I have a little skill with my hands and decided to take a stab at disassembling and cleaning the knife. I also thought a set of bone scales would look awesome and wanted to try my hand at that too :D.

After learning the hard way about swinden construction, I managed to get the knife apart. Unfortunately I had dinged up one of the bolsters pretty good looking for the pin that wasn't there :o. That's another reason I experiment on old users, if I screw it up it doesn't hurt as bad. Here are the end results. I reground the clip back to a point and got the sheepsfoot somewhat back to its original shape. I also put on a new set of bone scales that I made myself from start to finish. I was shooting for a somewhat emerald green, but I think I ended up more along the lines of "incredible hulk". In any case it has its flaws, but it was a good first shot at this type of project. I am currently working on a remington stockman of my brother-in-law's that is/was in deplorable shape. That will be a thread for another day. . .

Here are the pics, all that's left is to sharpen it up. Enjoy!

I'd say you did pretty darn good for your first time. Even got a nice fit on the shield. I have several old Old Timers I would like to try my hand at, but haven't gotten the nerve yet. Maybe this will encourage me.

Again, nice job!

I'm as green as your scales Chuck...wish I had the skill to do that....looks great and its unique....Hoo Roo

VERY nice indeed. I not only wish i had the skill, but the time and...
ooh there went something shiny!!!

oh, and the concentration to do such a project!

Thank you for the kind words fellas. I'm glad I saw it through, there were times that I thought I had messed up beyond repair, but it still turned out pretty well.

Very nice job!

As someone who tinkers with rebuilds myself, I know how difficult it can be to get everything to fit right and tight enough, without cracking handle materials.

I think it looks just fine with the green.

Please come back and show us your other projects, even if not schrade related.
