A new product idea--Matriarch II?

How about it, Mr. G? We've had all steel Endura II's and stainless-handled Natives (love'em both)so why not a Matriarch II with a plain stainless handle? All you'd have to do is bead blast it to slightly roughen it to get a "grippier' surface.
Or would it then compete with the high-end Civilian models? Although it seems to me the metal handle would be a whole lot tougher than G-10 or carbon fiber--and a whole lot more prettier-looking too.
You build it, I'll buy a couple at least.

Come-on now...Get back to the end of the line!:p...I've been trying to get Sal (Spyderco) to make the Chinook more "lefty-friendly" (like the FRN Endura/Delica, with the reversible pocket-clip), so please wait your turn, to put new ideas in Sal's head.:D.

...But a stainless Matriarch (and a stainless Civi) really would be nice!.:).

For a knife that's not made to be a user, only a last-ditch weapon, I don't think handle durability/toughness really matters.

Also, I don't think the sales are in it for Spyderco. They don't advertise the Matriarch/Civilian and supply/demand are both low. So coming out with more SKU's just isn't too practical.

The specific strengths and stiffness numbersfor G-10 and CF far exceed those of metal handles. Properly designed, they outperform the metals, are impervious to corrosion and weigh an awful lot less. Plus they can be made to provide a superior grip around blood, slime and water. So, it may "seem" to you that the metal handle would be "tougher," in reality it is significantly inferior to a properly designed and made G-10 or CF handle.

I'd buy one of the noew Police models except for the slippery stainless steel handle which makes them look good but renders them functionally dangerous to the user.

well i guess it would be kinda expensive if spydie made a ss version, a g-1o version a frn version as well as a cf version of each and everyone of there knives. Heck dont forget the option of a smaller version of each knife not to mention SE, PE, and combo edge options.

It would be nice for them to do that but... I would rather they made new styles instead of making more of the same. I mean a limited run of each is great but not at the expense of new styles.

I can solve everyone's problem once and for all!

Spyderco simply needs to buy a "custom knife making machine."

Customers send in their "wants," which are programmed into the wonderful fully automated CAD/CAM "KnifeMaker 2002" and after a couple minutes of whirring and grinding, out pops a 5" purple CF handled Jester in D2, with a gold bug pocket clip!

After an inspection and a test cut, it is then sent on its merry way to a very happy Spydie knifeknut!

Halucinatingly,

Karl
