It happened without me noticing. Somewhere along the way I grew up. I don't know where, I don't know when, but my tastes in knives seems to have matured and now seems to lean towards the practical. I used to adore the big blades -- bowies, daggers, khukuris, and assorted swords. I still like them (and always will as I appreciate fine bladeware), but now I find that I am drawn mostly towards smaller knives that are more useful for simple, everyday tasks. Knives like slipjoints or, in this specific case, puukkos.
This particular puukko was made by Pekka Tuominen. It is 8 1/8" long, with a 3 13/16" silversteel (Böhler k510) blade. The handle is stacked birch bark with brass mountings. The sheath (tuppi) is the traditional leather with a wooden insert.
I am going to use this puukko as my new day hike knife.
Thanks for looking.
