Nice lookin knife, but I can't read who makes it. Got a link? Does it have a name yet? Hehe.

Yknow I just cant get into the puuko's for some reason.Best reason is that I have never even held one. What kind of steel do they have? Are they not to thin? How grippy are the handles? Alot look like they would be easy to slip your hand onto the blade?Whats the deal guys??

Is there a US dealer of these knives? I looked at the site and there were some good looking knives. I've been wanting to look at some puuko's but can't find any around where I live. Any online dealers?

Thanks Dean

Puukos have a fine reputation, depending on who is making them.
However, this particular model merits a second look.

Marsupial-- I'm not super familiar with puukos, but since nobody else has answered your question, I'll give it a shot. Puukos are awewsome knives. They feel good in the hand, and are very ergonomic. They aren't fancy, but when it comes time to actually cut something, they work very well. The blades tend to be fairly thin and very sharp, so they make good cutters but not great pry-bars. I'd definitely recommend one as an all-around camp knife, especially when paired with a large chopper like a camp axe or a khukuri. I haven't had any problems with the lack of a gurard, but I would definitely exercise caution when stabbing with the knife, just as I would with any knife without a guard. As for blade steels, I think puukos are available in a variety of steels. The one I have now is stainless, but it takes a very nice edge. I prefer carbon steel, and any puukos I get in the future will have carbon steel blades. I think they take and hold a better edge than stainless, and I don't mind the extra maintenance.

3nails: Try Ragweed Forge. I've not ordered from them, but they come highly recommended. You might also want to try Kellam Knives. Again, I haven't ordered from them, but hear only good things about them.

Please apologize for my late reply.

First, I do not know much about the steel used, from what I've read, it's a self made one containing 13% of chrome and has 54/56 HRC.
For the rest, those knives are stronger than they could look. They do have a razor edge as soon as you buy them, and they keep it longtime but it's a pleasure to sharp them if you have to. It resist well against salt or acid (no problem to slice any vegetable like tomatoes)
Most of the time the handle is from different wood made (and the type of the wood determine the price).
The one I've bought has a rubber/lether handle, it stay well in the hand, even when wet or oiled (really important when blood goes on it).
If you buy one analyze it well, the blade must be wonderful and signed "Marttiini". Say this coz'one knife seller has try to convince me that the knife he was showing me was one Marttiini but if the sheath was signed the blade wasn't and looked like an oyster opener you can find in supermarket.
The sheath is a "double" one, inside you have a kind of "Kydex" one wich maintain well the knife in, over it you find the sheath self
lether or cordura (as the one I bought).
Hope this give some info
