Just finished this this morning.

Last weekend I spoke to Mike Quesenberry about heat treating 52100 and ended up talking W2. From that conversation, I changed or rather, tweaked some of my methods.

I got my best hamon yet!:D:D Nice ashi clouds.

Also I used wrought iron for the first time are really etched and blued the heck out of it.. I love the effect.

This knife was intended to be a daily user to test the HT for edge retention etc but when I saw the first hints of the hamon, I stepped up the polish a little. The white oak handle and utilitarian looks are from the edc design.

I had intended a half wrap in hemp on the handle and will look at doing that tomorrow.

The blade is 4 3/4" guard to tip with an OAL of 9 1/8".

It's simple but I kinda like it.

Stuart...

Wonderful hamon...the wrought iron guard and oak handle were made for each other...I like everything about it......can't wait to see how the hemp will look

Thanks Jim. When I put the oak next to the wrought iron I thought the same thing. I'm not convinced I want to hide the oak under hemp now.

Stuart that turned out pretty nice my friend love the hamon and the wrought looks great with the oak.

Thank you Mike. I finally used that wrought iron from you. Love the look. Still saving that special piece though. :)

Well what are you waiting for :D get to making something special, and I am with you that Oak looks pretty nice not sure I would hide it.

Why cover it - it looks great
Beautiful knife, Stuart

Please keep me in mind when you feel the need to retire it

looking forward to checking this piece out today bro. I have a bunch of hemp here, so if you don't have any yet you can help yourself!
(I think a wrap on this knife would look pretty cool, judging from the pics- maybe I'll change my mind once I see the real deal)

Some Hamon, Stuart. Let's expand that: soooommmme hamon, and on a lovely blade shape, too.

John

Stuart, that hamon is hypnotic.
I'll stir the pot and say try the wrap. It might accentuate that beautiful blade even further.

I love everything about it. Wonderful activity in that hamon, you did a great job with the polish too. The colors and textures of the oak grain and the etched and blued wrought iron complement it really nicely too. I wouldn't change a thing.

Very sweet little knife indeed. The oak looks great against the wrought iron. And I really like the peaked spine - nice touch. Keep up the great work.

Roger

after checking this little guy out, I must say that I desperately want to own it! And I'll go back on what I said- this knife is done, no need for a wrap or anything else. This one is about perfect. Sharp as hell too, I think Stu even cut himself with it today
