The second layout seems to fail as both a documentary presentation and as a display of the aesthetics of the knives.

The left frame requires sideways scrolling to see the image, and you can't see the entire image all at once. Vertical scrolling is required to try to locate what you're looking for (but you can't be sure you've found it without the back-and-forth scrolling).

The right frame requires vertical scrolling to see the image, and again, it can't be seen in its entirety. This can be a real bother at times, as well as taking away the aesthetic qualities of an image.

Then there's one of those nifty slides that changes every 10 seconds. Try seriously examining an image in the ten second window (or finding the image you need in order to identify a knife). It just doesn't work.

This probably means the world will think its wonderful; I'm a terrible predictor of website success.

While the 2nd one provides a larger viewing area, the left frame does not all fit into the pane, and requires scrolling, as has already been noted. It also took forever to load up, and that was on my internet at work, which is pretty fast.

The first one is simple and does what you need it to, IMO.

Great work either way, and nice hoard of knives, Larry H.! I knew you had alot, but good golly!

Have got to say I prefer the first one, loads much faster and I'm on 1.5 meg high speed. Agree this is a great collection and photo as well as layout congrats fellas and thanks for your time and effort and sharing!!!!

Thanks all for some feedback.

I think I can get the thumbnails to not need left-right scrolling but the
loading time is an issue that has to do with the size of the collection. Larry will just have to give me his knives.

I'd bet people on dialup connections would have a real problem.

You all should know that, when looking at the older pages, clicking on a thumbnail image will bring up a larger shot.

More thoughts/comments please.

is it possible to also have this info and pics in a format that can be downloaded by slow dial up; i.e. an option when you first click onto the site that re-directs those limited by their internet connection ?
most of the year i have only ultra slow dial up, about 1/3rd speed of regular dial up. roland
