Snagged this one on the 'bay, took a chance that it was real (had my doubts), i figured a steal for about $10, and if a fake, probably a good beater..

Just got it confirmed up in Mr. Levine's forum, she is legit!:thumbup::thumbup:
Was sold as Camillus 2 blade equal end jack circa 1924-1941, Marked Tru-Sharp.

I knew it wasn't a equal end, but didn't know if it was a serpentine(best guess), thanks to BRL I know it is a serpentine jack.

Anyway, this is now the oldest folder I own, bumping a 1950s kissing crane from that title. I'm not a collector, I'm a user, but I'm still stoked from picking up a nice older knife. ;):D

She gets pocket time tomorrow!

Very nice. I am fond of Sears/ Craftsman contract knives myself and have a few.A great way to pick up vintage Camillus/Ulster/Schrade knives for little cash. True sleepers in my opinion.

This is my only STA-SHARP

Nice catch Tigre ! You ought to put her up with a little mineral oil on 'er in case you decide to collect some day.

Nice score, she's a real beauty, and in great condition considering her age. That was a great snag. Are the scales jigged delrin?

That's a real nice bayquest! Congrats, and Sauconian has a good point to consider.

There are still a lot of fantastic bargains in older traditional hunting and pocket knives by desirable makers if you don't mind leaving "the pack" behind and venturing into the realms of merchant branded knives such as that pre-war Camillus made Sears Sta-Sharp. While the market for merchant branded knives is more competative now than it was a few years ago, not that many collectors really look for knives like these as compared to maker branded knives.

Here are a couple of examples I recently acquired for my collection at bargain basement prices:

An early (pre-1939) Camillus made Kent (Woolworth's house brand) Sportsman more closely resembling the Marbles "DeWeese" than what we think of as a "Sportsman" pattern:

A post-1938 Camillus made Kent Sportsman Krome-Plate

Another Kent Sportsman as yet unidentified as to the variant and year:

A Kingston branded (Ulster/Imperial sub-brand) K-29 electrician knife:

A Kingston hunting knife, so far unidentified as to maker and year:

All of these together cost less than one new major brand knife and each represents the state of the art at the time of manufacture.

PS: Very nice Sta-Sharp! Etches were often light and when gone, so was the identification of for whom it was made!
