What are yours

I hope to continue the work i am doing with classicshaving.com
I also hope to get the ball rolling on being under contract work for all mmy kitchen knives.
I will again tell my self that i will tey and get a few folders made

Even more lofty goals will include making a BP pistol (no Mr Bump you have nothing to worry about :) )

First Goal is to pass JS.
Second goal is to figure out better ways of marketing my knives.
Third is to keep knife making fresh by trying new processes and styles.

Butch I didn't even realize you were with Classic Shaving. Congrats.

Mine are (now that I'm not working nights all the time) are to get back into the shop and finish the knives that have been sitting there. And get started back up again making knives. I have family members all asking "Where's my knife" so I have some "orders" to fill.

That alone will be plenty for me and as long as I can start producing knives things should only get better from there.

I'd also like to hit the Mega Millions so I can get Butch to make me a custom 7 day straight razor set as I've become addicted to straight shaving :D.

Short term, new years goals
Get over this Flu/Cold I have.
Finish the sheath for the last set that I set out for HT.
Get another set ready to go for the end of the month.
Sell them all and get my VFD so I can finish my grinder.
Get back to working at my day job.

Long term
Just be a better person/ Craftsman in all aspects than the day before.

Butch,

Congrats on classicshaving.com. You deserve it.

Can you give any more details on the contract work for your kitchen knives?

the site that is going to handle all my kitchen stuffs is still being built and is also waitingon me to get a few ready from him

the best news is that the site will be showcasing the best US makers making both japenese style blades and German styles too. the key here is if its not properly made it will not be sold there
so you will not worry about getting a kitchen knife that has a edge that is too thick (or thin depending on the use)

This will be a great thing!!! My lips are sealed :D

My goal is to improve the overall quality of my knives. I would also like to make my first folder.

It had been nearly a year since I have even built a knife due to my wife being so sick and now that we have her under treatment and she is showing a little improvement. I now have the will to start building knives again!
My goal after my cardiologist clears me from my quadruple bypass I had to have at Thanksgiving is to start building some knives again. He talked like by March or so I would be able to do anything I wanted again and I can't wait!

I have a bowie all cut out that is laying on my work bench as well as another ten or twelve laying on the cutting table that are just begging to be finished. I have three pieces of handle material that I won from a contest giveaway for the 1000th post of Fletch Helical that will make my first three knives I finish.
It’s the first thing I have won in years and I got to honor the man the sent them to me, you know!

Get the new shop built.
Finish building the "Ultimate Controller"
Finish the "World's most over-engineered forge"
Finish the shelf full of blades I made, but haven't finished yet.

Finish my forging press
build a better heat treat kiln
can you say kitchen knives?

stay out of the hospital!

Get more consistent and smooth in my grinds and cut the number of "stupid" errors in half in the next month.
Improve my design variety, which comes back to improving my grinding abilities.

On the equipment side I'd like to upgrade to a 2x72 sometime this year and add a temp readout for my mini forge for HT consistency.

This month; I'd like to sell my first knife in the the knife makers market.
This year; I'd like to "give away" 50 knives at cost of material to establish my name as a maker.

My immediate goals: Master nail nicks with a flycutter, get much better with my new bridgeport mill, sell my first linerlock.

This year: Make a multiblade slipjoint, make an auto folder, mill an integral, build a 1911 pistol.

Build a forging press, finish a sword, get that power hammer that I have a line on for $500 locally, make a lot more folders, get more efficient, and have fun trying and learning new things. Make music and do some old time blacksmithin'.

This year I would like to get back to playing guitar; take bagpipe lessons; get back on the bike and drop another 25 pounds (gotta get back to my "pre-pregnancy" weight... or so I keep telling my wife!); keep making knives and improving with every one; figure out why i can't get the backside of any of my sheaths to not look like crap; participate in the Christmas KITH with a knife I can be proud of; upgrade to a 2x72 grinder, somehow...; fill my deer and elk tags; really try to focus in school; give my wife and kids a little more attention; be better at showing God my gratitude; spend more time in acts of service.

Nice thread, Butcher:thumbup:

My goals for this year are very simple.........improve, improve, improve!! I am trying to consciously make each knife a little better than the last. I also want to push myself to try and accomplish more milestones in my work. I've received a lot of encouragement here on the forum and have been taken to task by a few excellent knife makers to push some aspects of my work to the next level. I have said that I will try and I plan to make good on that claim in 2011.

Happy new year everybody!

I like goals that are measurable:

Get a new grinder
Make 10 knives a month by the end of the year
Make one knife per month with a hidden tang
Make one knife per month with bolsters
