I got to head out and do some hiking today. I went to Carlton Hill State land here in NY. It was around 40 degrees when I started but turn into a beautiful day. I was looking for leeks and did not find them so I ended up at my cousins and got a nice batch of leeks and a couple shots of a pair a of geese and a duck. I also brought along my new to me Ruger Mark II Competition target pistol that I got at a gun show a couple weeks ago. Doug

do you find the estwing sturdy, comfortable and easy to maintain? I've been considering picking one up. I really like the idea of packing a .22 caliber pistol, it makes a whole lot of sense. Right now I use a light singleshot rifle, Remington 510T Targetmaster made in 1926, it breaks down into stock and action in one screw. For the 90 bucks I spent on it it does the job well but I think a quality pistol may be able to accomplish the same tasks, taking small game while on long backpacking trips.

PayetteRucker, I find the Estwing a very good deal. It is forged, it has the stacked leather handle they last a long long time and very comfortable to use I am not sure what steel it is but they hold an edge well too. I am waiting to get a holster for the pistol but i just tucked it in the lower straps of the pack and it stayed in place well. I do need to shoot a bunch more to improve my skills but like you said a quality pistol is great to have with you. Doug

Nice pics Doug, Those Rugers are neat. I had one before and tossed around getting another but in Pa. we arent allowed to use them for hunting (no semi actions). I really like those grips.

I had the Mark II bull barrel and it was stolen many years ago and it has not turned up as of yet, so when I saw this one I had to have it. Your post with the leeks the other day got me fired up and I managed to get some and the wife cooked them up with Ham potatoes and carrots real good. Doug
