I recently had the opportunity to do some work on an HI katana for Tedwca. The blade had some not so sharp areas and he needed it touched up a bit. When it arrived, I was stunned by the beauty of this sword. I asked Ted if I could do a bit more than just sharpening, and he allowed me to do so. As you can see, the kami (Nepali flag?) had inlayed two horn diamonds into the handle, surrounded by brass strips. Really sets it off. I refinished the handle with Tru-oil, and satin polished and blued the back of the guard. This is only the second HI katana I've handled. Both of them have been nimble, well balanced, and just scream to cut soft targets. I didn't etch the blade, but from the sparks during sharpening, I'd say the front 1/3 of the blade is the hardest. That's consistent with what I've seen before. Beautiful blade Ted!
