Hello there :)

The title says it all. I'm coming to the end of 3 years of hard work and i think i'm gonna buy myself a nice knife.
I'm open to pretty much everything; it just have to be actually usable (meaning i don't plan on leaving it on a shelf; as far as i'm concerned, a knife is a tool, as nice as it may be, not a trophy) and it has to be a folder.

I'm willing to go up to 500$ (more or less, i can go completely insane if i really like something).

So, any idea or recommandation of what i should buy (or what you would buy with that kind of money) ? :)

Oh, and the knife doesn't have to be as tough as a bloody crowbar. On the other hand, a perfect fit and finish is an enormous plus to me.

I'd go for a custom slipjoint with some sort of natural handle material. Check out some of the stuff in the Traditional subforum.

I'd rather have a locking mechanism actually ;)

Custom... Fixed or folder?

As mentionned above, a folder ;)

Crk mnandi or crk sebenza:thumbup:.

I like both, although the mnandi seems awfully small. I really like the sebenza to be honest. Really not an original pick (not that i try to be original at all cost) but i do think it would suit my needs perfectly.
Any other ideas ?

DDR Trigger Maze, had my eye on one for awhile. Or a greg lightfoot or kirby lambert, both very classy and very tough

What kind of size range are you shooting for? Where would you carry it/ what do you use your EDC for? I assume you are looking for a folder?

These are all important questions to answer for such a special purchase.

Of the higher end knives I own , the CRK Umnumzaan and the Strider SnG are two of my favorites ( the SnG just fits my hand perfectly).

If you're leaning toward CRK products, I was lucky enough to handle both the Sebenza and Umnumzaan prior to buying the Umnumzaan. It almost came down to a coin toss ( my wife picked it), so either is a fine knife.

Somewhere between 3" and 4" would be nice, and 3.5 would be perfect :D

The like the strider as well, but it seems way too tough for my needs; i'm not a warrior, and i don't plan to cut a plane in half.
The umnumzaan is nice, but it gets a thumb down for not being as simple to disassemble as the sebenza.

Edit : I'm sorry to be so picky, but this just has to be perfect, especially considering i have all the time i need to make the right choice.

What about a Sebenza Insingo? it's hard to not love that blade shape.

Very nice indeed, but it seems only Knife Art has them, and even there they're not available. I'm not the kind of guy who buys stuff without even having a vague ETA on his order. So unless i could get one without a month or two, that's not an option.

Hinderer XM-18 or XM-24 (4" just unveiled)

It seems way too hard to get one for me to even thinking to try. And there's no way that i participate to the ebay craziness; when the maker says it's worth 385$, that's what it's worth. Paying more would be paying for rarity and exclusivity. I'm not interessed by that. I don't want a knife to show off, i want a quality tool (and i do understand that the hinderer knives are excellent knives, but the amount of money asked is just preposterous in my humble opinion).
So not an option either.

A knife from the "cheaper" William Henry designs?
I don't see these often but they are very nice.

This one is about 400 dollar but there are some cheaper for about 250.

If you want the perfect knife geta Sebenza. You will never reget it.

i'm not sure where you are looking but Knife Art lists both large and small as ships same business day.
