a nice pair

Maybe not what I was hoping for (and expecting fom Danny) ;) but expectional nonetheless. I wish the story behind the pair was known...

Yeah. I was expecting a couple alien body parts nicely matched, like bookends or something..

Gentlemen and Ladies if you have ever wondered what the "Green Horn" that I and others have mentioned from time to time looks like now is your chance!
The Bowie, and the khukuri to a point, has a beautiful example of a "Green Horn" handle!!!!
Indeed it really is "green.";)

Most of the green horn I have seen has been in an abused and uncared for state, don't know or understand why that has always been the case because the green horn is an absolutely beautiful handle material!
Only having seen it in a poorly kept state the green horn seems to be more fibrous than other examples of horn.
I'm sure some of the less damaged examples I've seen were salvageable as they appeared to have enough material so that a gentle sanding to remove the damaged fibers and then a polishing to restore it to its former glory was possible. Sadly most of the pieces were damaged beyond repair but were still excellent collector pieces although not really in an all time usable condition.:(
This appears to be in the best condition I have ever seen, would sure like to be able to check it out in person.:)

Hmmmm....think the khuk I got from JP has greenish handles. I just thought it was blonde. Have to go double check.

Anyway, definitely a very nice pair. Khuk definitely has great lines, and one heck of a karda!!!! :D

All of a sudden I feel a desire to open an ebay account ....
That got a chuckle out of me Bam and that hasn't happened the last couple of days much.:)

I do have to say that DIJ did pick a beautiful pair. I only wish the seller would've been a bit more descriptive in the lengths of the knives. If the lengths he posted are blade lengths then a nice pair they are indeed! :D
If oal then methinks they're a tad on the small side.
Helluvit is that it's hard to determine size without something to judge scale with.:grumpy:

Glad to hear you're smiling Yvsa. It has been a rough week and a half hasn't it.

Well, my HIKV is itching this morning, so I went ahead and put a bid in for the pair ... we'll see if it works out. I really like the shape and size of that Bowie, which is the one that really called to me.

Fingers crossed for the next three days... :D

Yes, it has, trouble is it was only Saturday morn when I heard about Rusty. His passing is too fresh and raw for me right now for much humor.:(

I hope you get it Bam, I really do!
If you're lucky enough and do get it I would really like to know the condition of those handles and if indeed they are really that color or a fluke of the light and camera.
If they are the green horn give 'em a good soaking in mineral oil or glycerin!!!!:)

The humor will return in its own time.

I was thinking about Rusty and Uncle Bill, and the timing of the two. Seems to me they are too close together to be a coincidence.

I think *Upstairs* needed help with something, needed it fast, and wanted a pair he knew worked together.

I hope I get them too, the knives that is. If so, I'll clean 'em up and try and get some pics on here. Best not to put the cart before the donkey though, eh?

Reminds me of a Cardinal talking about the Pope before he died. "We appreciate the prayers for his recovery. If he does pass on, let the prayers be for his peaceful passing. God may be calling him home, where he is expected."

Bill and Rusty certainly were expected. I miss them also, but rejoice in the legacy they left with us.
