It has been too long since I was out in the woods, so I decided to take advantage of the decent weather, and my day off.
Walked out the back door along the creek, with my trusty trail cat.
She is actually my neighbor's barn cat, but seems to have adopted me.
She followed me about half a mile before deciding she was tired of jumping over puddles.
Here is a shot back at the farm. The creek is actually much higher than it has been in nearly a year.
Last winter, it was common to see a pair of eagles in this dead cottonwood.
Damn buck-toothed bastards are wreaking havoc on the trees.
It seems the neighbor has been running his coon dogs again.
The trail onward.
The trail further onward.
Last time I went this way, there was no water in the stream.
White water!!!
I noticed a colony of puff ball mushrooms...
...and couldn't resist.
This is the destination. A few stone outcroppings, which I evidently did a poor job of capturing.
This one goes back about 20 feet. A person can sit on that log, but have to basically crawl to get there.
Looks like I made it just in time to see this,
before it turns into this.
This is about as big as the waterfalls get around here...
Roughly 6-7'.
You may be able to see the huge chunk of ice behind the water.
I think this is caused by a gentle trickle that followed the "roof" of the outcropping, rather than than falling over the edge.
I just sat and listened to water for a while, pretty relaxing.
Thanks for coming along, this walk was extremely rejuvenating for me. May make the upcoming work week a little better.
