Hello there
Iam looking for some advice. I have been reading with interest all the info on belt grinders and the like over the last 3 years. i need to get one in a hurry to scratch the knifemaking itch. As i live in Taiwan i have found great difficulty in finding a belt grinder with a 72" belt, they all seem to be 36" with half horsepower motors. It was with some interest that I read about grizzly grinders and Coote grinders.
My question is 1 has anybody ever bought the knifemaking attachment for the grizzly G1015 which they call "P1015089 Complete second box will cost $149.95 and it specifically
designed for the G1015 motor."?If so has anybody tried attaching it to a variable speed motor ?
2 If I had access to a variable speed 1hp motor at about U$ 420 should I go for it? In the same vein would there be any advantage in going for a Coote grinder and putting it on to the variable speed motor ?
Does anybody know what kind of an arbor the Coote grinder requires ?
Finally if I was forced to use a 2 " by 36 inch one horse power belt grinder, would this really affect the time spend making the knives , as after all it is the maker not the equipment that counts, right ?
My humble thanks for any replies and advice.
