A one-handed SAK

If these came in a plain-edged model, I'd buy one. I just prefer plain over serrated blades.

I've been looking for a source. I didn't find it because I was searching for the "Pocket Service Tool". Was this knife discontinued? I don't see it on the official Victorinox site.

Too bad its serrated--I feel the same way about that as the previous poster. If they make an Outrider with a plain edge one-hand blade, though, I'm all over it :D

I have been looking all over the place too, I think it's either very new or could have been a limited production. If anyone finds out where I can get one in the UK please let me know.Maybe my eyes are buggered, but the blade looks plain to me (model 54874).

I recall a thread that said Victorinox had "temproarily" suspended production of the Pocket Service Tool a/k/a one-hand Trailmaster.

They "introduced" the knife at Blade. I just received one yesterday and sent it back today. This is the first example of a bad Vic I ever saw. The blade is 75% serrated from the tip back, leaving about 1.5" of straight edge at the back of the blade. The one I received had significant lateral blade play in both the main blade and large screwdriver. I'm thinking they're rushing these through to meet the demand. I'll wait a bit before I consider getting another, and then only if I can hand inspect it before purchase.

i bought one of these from the cutlery shoppe, works as advertised, the serrations could be removed with a sharpening stone i would think if it made you happy, the fit and finish is as you would expect with a victorinox. the blade and large flat screwdriver blade are locked with liner type locks, and the saw does a wonderfull job on dry wall board.

Blade is already fairly narrow, like "popsicle stick" if you remove serrations you will have little width remaining, and now with thick edge unless you grind new bevels up its width. This seems like too much work to end up with a compromised blade.
How easy it is to open one hand anyway? If it is built like other Victorinox locking SAKS, it must be difficult especially since it "stops" at 90 degrees before opening/closing fully.

the serrations are very shallow so you would not have to do much to stone them off and you certainly would not lose any blade if you look at the pictures you may not even be able to tell that the knife is serrated, the blade has a good spine on it so i think that it is a sturdy slicing blade, definately not a chopper. it opens like a spyderco with about as much difficulty. hey this is a victorinox, put your thumb in the hole and push it opens very smoothly. the linerlock works smoothly and locks the blades tight, no play in mine, just like the lock on the fireman SAK that i own and built to the same quality as far as i can see. after carrying it on the property for the summer i will know more.

i am satisfied with it as it is made as well as the six other victorinox knives i own. and i believe it has the quality that you would expect from them.

I bought one a month ago and took it camping in the woods for a week.
It is great! The serrations are fine ( I'm slightly in favor of NO serrations) but the blade works on everthing.
This will be my main field knife from now on.

Hi folks,
This one-hand trailmaster is called Military(take a look).
It´s available since about November 2001 and it´s not limited.
I´ll tell Victorinox that most people would prefer no serration.
@mike
all military i sold untill today was ok and had no blade play. the best would be you exchange yours where you bought it or mail victorinox. they are very nice and will solve the problem.

Thomas,

When I ordered the knife, I specifically requested a hand inspection to ensure there was no blade play (just like I did with you, my friend.) They just emailed me back stating, "All blades are from the factory and have been factory inspected."

This is not the service I expect when I make a purchase, and I blame the seller. It's just not good business to completely ignore a direct and very reasonable request. Whatever happened to the old axiom, "The customer is always right" ??

When hel* freezes over I might deal with them again.

Anyways, looks like more business for an Austrian gent I happen to know ;) Whatcha got new and exciting in the form of alox handles???

Mike:
Agreed! Might I ask which e-tailer did you wrong? I want to be sure to take that into account the next time I order a knife online.
