Hey Gary,

Thanks for the photos, I enjoyed them. Looks like it was certainly a nice day for it.

On a less pleasant note, that is some of the worst rapier fencing I have ever seen. Toes not on target, wards improperly held, incorrect distance , poor footwork, lunging without the heel grounded.......
Cheers

Stu, sharp eye there, the fellow that was putting on the display was quite the hot fellow, very big on himself, he damaged his partners mouth during a warmup, they were off to the side on the dirt road that went up the hill while the Japanese swords were being talked about, suddenly we heard a Nasty word yelled out and as you noted a beautiful day it was, there was his partner bent over spewing blood out his mouth, seems that wooden sword was swung just a wee bit too close and caught his friends mouth quite hard, several stitches later that night. The guy was a trooper though, he still went on through the demonstrations with that smashed mouth! while the MAIN guy was mucking it through. It was interesting and I'm sure the fellow knows his stuff, he surely told everyone he did...

It is a Great spot for a mini-vacation, that year was dedicated to just swords, most times like this year there will be demonstrations on forging, damascus making, grinding and other aspects of knife making. Always a good time deep in the woods of the Catskill mountains, near Kingston NY, this year starts on Friday the 20th of Sept.

That fellow teaching is John Clements, and that rapier fencing is pretty bad... Any details on that injury? Was he OK? Did he go to the hospital??

It's a real sad thing when people get injured in sparring, but you say that this happened durring a warmup? What could they have possibly been doing in a warmup to bust a guy'f face so hard that it bleeds?

Yes indeed it was John Clements, I do remember now, he was very quick witted and pretty fast on his feet.

The accident was, I think, bringing the sword up from ground level and struck that poor fellow straight in the front of his mouth, he did go to the hosipital after the demos, kept a cold press against his mouth when John was talking, but did the sparring like I said, as a trooper! Don't remember his name, tall fellow, quiet and soft spoken, seemed to know his stuff, I think the accident was just too much of a hurry getting ready for the event. The sunlight was streaming down through the trees onto the road where they were fighting, quite a neat scene actually.

It was a BIG thick wooden sword!

I could care less about JC and crew or the anti JC and crew...I hope you newbies here keep all that b.s on the other forums over there on those forums and dont pollute this one too...if ya gotta talk your anti spew from either parties please take it to the Whine and Cheese Forum and you can talk all the cr@p you want without being moderated by the forum censure police like on those other 2 forums...here is the link for those newbies that have dont have a clue to what forum I am talking about http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=684

Hey Randall & Sweet,

I hardly think that talking about poor technique is the same as some of the bitching that went on other forums. When I see what I know to be poor technique nothing is going to stop me from saying so.

I don't really care what JC and his crowd are doing either which is why you will notice that I didn't mention names in my post.

I cannot however stand the thought of people looking at those pictures and using them as a starting point to look at manuals. The technique in them is just wrong wrong wrong.
Cheers
Stu.

Come on now...what was this orginal post about? ..JC..so you dont need to hide behind "I didn't mention names in my post."
We all know who the heck your talking about, ya dont need to hide anything here like on other forums and try to be P.C

"I cannot however stand the thought of people looking at those pictures and using them as a starting point to look at manuals. The technique in them is just wrong wrong wrong."

I agree with ya 100% and with his lack of control it will one day bite him in the arse and pocketbook...ok since ya got me now on this JC person I aint got NO RESPECT for him since he has never that I know of spoken up for himself...no nards I guess...

Hmmm Whoa fellas...lets just lock this thread down before everyone gets too worked up, I just found that page and wanted to share some of the outdoors view of the Ashokan Campus and since there were some swords and swordplay in the photos I added this thread to the Sword forum as well...so lets not go past that point please and keep things civil or it may well be best to lock it up and nip things in the bud...

So I'll be the short dude with a long handle above my Right shoulder, don't go by the avatar as that is pretty old and I have a new look, ought to change that but I was happy then..;)
