I got the 7 a few weeks ago. With the good things people had said about BKT it was an easy decision to get one. Of course having one seems to give you the urge to have two, then three and so on....

So I decided I wanted the 9 and the Campanion to go with the 7 and figured I would pick them up at the AG Russell grand opening. It tunred out to be a good news/bad news situation. Bad news was that there were no 9s in stock....there were tons of people early the first day, so they may very well have just sold out, I really dont know. The good news was that they had a Campanion on stock, so I snatched one up.

Comapring my 7 to the Campanion really shows the difference in these knives. The Camp is smaller by a couple of inches, but a bit thicker and just from looking would appear to be the more durable of the two if you were to test them to destruction (which I have no intention of doing). Of course, the 7 itself is pretty darn tough, at least from the limited use I have put it through since I got it.

The tips are a real contrast to each other. The 7 is a clip point and much thinner, although its thick enough so you dont have to worry about it being delicate. The Camp would appear to be the choice if you have reason to pry with your knife (which I dont).

Hard to tell by feel which is heavier. The 7 is longer, but the Camp is thicker and keeps its thickness closer to the tip than the 7.

The sheaths are quite different. The 7 is nylon with a kydex liner. It works well, however the liner is not form fitted and the knife flops around and makes plenty of noise...probably wouldnt want to wear it dear hunting or anywhere that being quiet is important. The Camp sheath is kydex, and although the knife will move a bit, it doesnt just flop. IMO a far better sheath. Im sure that there are plenty of kydex guys can make a great sheath for the 7 if you have a need for one.

Both knives appear extremely heavy duty, however as stated, I would bet the Camp has the edge in extreme durability. The 7 no doubt would be the choice for an all around knife as its a bit thinner and the tip would be better suited to finer work.

These opinions are just based on limited use of the 7, and visual examination of both side by side, so long term use will be required to know for sure. IMO getting either one well provide you with a high quality hard working knife...or better yet just get both, the are priced right.

Will do a real review after some general long term use....as soon as I get off my lazy butt and give them a workout :)

Hi Richard!
Very nice comparative piece. I've got the BK-7 and that knife just plain kicks butt. That side by side of the BKT 7 and the Campanion is an eye opener for me. I might have to go give one of those Campanions a closer looksee.
If you don't have one already and get a chance, check out a BK&T Magnum Camp Knife.
That one is probably my favorite in the Becker line so far. Well balanced, lightning fast in the hand, an outstanding kitchen/camp/hiking knife and downright handy to have with ya.;)

All the best,
Mike U.

Ok, looking on AG Russells website, the following wieghts are given:

BK 7 - 12.9oz

Campanion - 14.7oz

I believe (would have to get my tape measure) that both are from 3/16 stock. The grinds on the 7 go much higher than tha Camp, and of course the tip narrows more also, so that probably explains why the smaller knife is still heavier.

Richard,

Nice write up and pics!:D The BK7 and Campanion are next on my purchase list.

The Campanion looks BULLETPROOF!

Another Companion vote.., but I do have the "7" also. The companion is a "down and dirty" little bulldog with lots of bang for the buck....

Thanks for the very good pictures....
