A Pair of Keyholes

I just finished up the Keyhole Hunter. Both knives have forged W2 blades, the keyhole guards are 410 stainless steel and the handles are African Blackwood with a stainless steel pin. Both are ready to head off to their new homes.

The next time I build one of these, I will most likely do a heart, spade or diamond for the keyhole design. Which would you like to see and why?

Thanks for stopping by,
Ken

Ken, those are two beauties. I've been admiring keyholes for a while and yours are very well done. Good job!

Hello Ken!

Amazing pair - can't wait to get my hands on that hunter! :)

I would be intrigued by an all different hole pattern, maybe two "eights" that cover about two thirds of the entire lenght of the handle.

Best regards,
Alex

AMAZING!

I think Rodrogo Sfreddo was the first one I saw do this.....though I guess it's been done before. It really astounds be to see the precision of the fit on this style of build.
...AND now I have a name for what to call it too:)

Congratulations on such a sweet pair, they look very well executed & this inspires me to try this someday soon.

Very nice, I think a spade would look really interesting with how the shape flows.

I really dig your keyholes, Ken.
As far as keyhole designs go, I bet somebody's gonna' do a skull sometime. :D

Doug

Doug, that would be interesting to do skull keyhole, the eyes could be pins.

Ken

Perfectly fine to use pins...or you could go all out Sfreddo on it and carve the eyes in the bolster,
fitting the wood around the eyes, the blackwood would be perfect.
Just a thought.
Again, two gorgeous keyholes you posted.
Thanks.

Doug

you could do something asymmetrical -wise for the cutout. Like a lightning bolt or something. Tight enough tolerance capability and you could do pretty much anything, (even possibly farming the cutouts to an EDM outfit...)

Really great work there. I like them very much. Inspires me to have a crack at one.
Cheers Keith

Both superb knives with awesome fit and finish. When I first saw the Keyhole subhilt WIP on here I contacted Ken about buying the knife to add to my collection and a deal was struck. Just can't wait to get my hands on it!

Great crafting on the 'keyhole', as for the question you posed.....

How about going with the diamond? I would think that it is the harder of the shapes to be made....the 'point' on the 'tip' of the is very sharp, going to be more difficult then running a few drill bits in some really awesome steel.

Scott (keep those designs coming) B

Those are insane! Those look like a lot of work and skill to accomplish.
