Earlier this year I had Ray make my brother a Kephart, and I think the Laconico bug has bitten because he recently ordered another one for himself and one for my nephew. I picked them up from Ray so I could take a look at them before I ship them. Not to steal anyone's thunder, here is a sneak preview. I'll let him post his own review; suffice it to say that the typical Laconico quality is there. My brother seems to think I should send these off unused....

Wow!!
I am more impressed with Ray's work every time I see a new piece.
Those are nice.:thumbup::thumbup:

OH LALA! wood handled one just SHOUTS my name! seriously schwing on that bottom one...glad itsnot mine coz id prolly never use it! :)

I just snatched the same one as the top 1 there off the exchange. Whata sweet freeking knife!

What model is the bottom 1?

That desert ironwood has a hell of a lot of character. Love the look of that handle!

Where's the hell is Ray?

We need to organize a group buy for that bottom 1!!

Thanks guys! TF, Here's a bottom side view of the ironwood one. It's basically an HWK that I've modified for him. He wanted it slimmer in profile.
I like the way it turned out but if I had to pick one of the two, I'd go for the top one. For me, that's one of the best feeling knives I've ever made. It has 1/4" thick scales so it's not for those who like fat handles but it's perfect for me. Everything from the handle shape, blade shape, and size is just right for me. I even kind of like the rough finish.:)

Thanks goes to Ray - they look very nice. I can't wait to see them in person. And yes, they better arrive unused. There seems to be a bit of confusion about whose family they joined.

Background - the Kephart arrived as a surprise a few months ago. I had heard from my brother about how nice Ray's work is, but I was blown away by just how nice. The quality and fit & finish are top notch - Ray has incredible attention to detail (seriously - if you are sitting on the fence about one of Ray's blades, sit no longer). So when my wife told me to order one for my birthday (after I hinted that I wanted to) I agreed just to make her happy.

And the scales - my son wanted the black micarta with the worn finish. My brother graciously offered to let me have some nice wood of his - and gave a number of choices, all of them good. I ultimately settled on this ironwood.

He tells me that I am deluded if I think this will be my last one from Ray.

Here's the Kephart that started it. It's lonely right now, waiting for its brothers.

Man I really like the wood on that bottom one. I like how black it is with wood streaking through it. Very nice.
