My two M44's came in on Thursday.
They are both arsenal refurbs from 1944. Both are counterbored, so I suspect they saw some use.
They are in good shape. The one with the good trigger has a tough bolt to work, and the one with the easy bolt has a rough trigger! I will enjoy tweaking these a bit.
I got a chance to shoot a few rounds after work the other day, just out of one of them. It was some ball ammo with a yellow tip i had purchased locally. I have some more ammo on the way from AIM too.
recoil wasn't bad. The rifle jumps a bit, but no pain at all. I fired 3 shots with the bayonet folded, and 3 with it extended. With the bayonet folded, the group at 40 yards was 4.5 inches, and 6 inches to the left. With the bayonet extended, the group was 2.5 inches, and dead on. I was sitting at a table with elbows resting on the table, no other support.
I am happy with them. I got them from trinity arms, they shipped quick, with light weight green cloth gun covers, as well as all the standard accessories.
I will get them out to my regular range soon. I see ammoman has the short range light weight low recoil ammo, but seems only to be selling it in cases of 1152 fro 250 shipped. From what i have read, that is a very low recoil load, almost like a varmint load. I may just have to handload some light loads to get some new shooters to try these out.
I find that I can operate these from the shoulder, even though the bolt is pretty far forward, and the handle is short.
Thanks for all the advice/encouragement when i was asking for input on these.
Now, I would like to save for a Finn '91... Love those Imperial markings!

I no doubt will be getting some new books and videos in the near future. I had a book by Cornelius Ryan about the Eastern front some years ago. It was excellent, but I can't remember the title off hand. Oh well, a new obsession to take over where the Swiss stuff left off. Winter war, here I come...
take care,
Tom
