While trolling the forums I happened to run across a deal on bot the 0777 M390BLK and a 0888! I have had the 0777 for a little while but just got the 0888 in today! These knives really are works of art so I decided to snap a few pics of the pair for you guys and gals. I also snapped a few of the 0888's guts while I had it tore apart (No real reason why other than I'm a curious kind of person). I also have a little bit of a scavenger hunt/spot the difference game. Can you spot the differences in my production 0888 and the prototypes that were at blade? So far I have found two differences and possibly a third.
Without any further ado here they are....

Sexy indeed. Those pics are XXX. And thanks for the 'stripped down' pics of the triple 8. Would you mind sharing her (serial) number?:D Just curious, that's all.

If I had the knife apart, I wouldn't be able to resist heat anodizing all the titanium parts. :)

I have #0047

Thanks, and all joking aside, I really do appreciate seeing it taken down. If you could get a pic that would show it, I'd really like to see what ZT did with fusing the metals once the fusion got beyond what could be seen with the scales on the knife. Does that make sense? Probably not.

Is the pivot hole in s110v steel, or is it in the 14C28N? Is the 14C28N an insert completely enveloped by s110v, or???

Anyone know why ZT used the 14C28N? Was there a functional purpose, or were they just showing off...as usual. :D .

Not sure about the pivot. I would have to take it back apart to know. Which is easier said than done. The blade stop and the pin between the handles are fitted pretty tight. Had to actually give the handles a pretty good tap from a book (no rubber mallet on hand) to get it back together.

No worries. But I have been curious as to how ZT designed the rest of the blade, the hidden fusion lines.

Thanks, though. A little mystery never hurts.

Quick speculation, maybe they cut out a portion of the S110V and brazed in the 14C28N so that milling the fuller wouldn't eat the tooling? Possibly just showing off their manufacturing prowess? Dunno, like I said this is pure speculation. Good looking knife, however I wouldn't buy one because I despise all metal handles.

I think you can see the that the 14C28N is radiused before the pivot hole. Take a closer look at the pics.

I saved them and enlarged them.

Great idea. That is what it looks like. So that 14C28N is completely enclosed in the s110v. I can't imagine that it was easier to do that in order to machine the fuller grove. Maybe, though. S110v has got to be a royal pain in the hind end to work with. But, mostly, it must have been just showing off. ZT does do a pretty good job of that. It's got to be more difficult to do an insert like that than a single straight line, ie., spine to cutting edge. Impressive. Might be worth a chat with a ZT rep at some point.

Again, Rubicon Joey, thanks for the disassembled pics, and Pool Hustler and idute21 for your input.

What a cool knife.

I believed they used the 14C28N as the inner Oval as it was easier to mill it out for that nice design... I know they had a Hell of a time with the M390 0777s with the milling. Was much easier with the Damascus.
