When I'm working on a bigger project and I get stumped, I usually try to break out of it a bit by starting on another project in hope that it'll loosen me up a bit, and I can pick up on the previous one.

I now, officially, have more projects started than I can possibly finish in a reasonable time frame.

Rather than dive off the nearest cliff, I elected to make a couple small hunters to tide me over. You know, small successes. :)

These are made of Crucible 154CM, just over an 1/8" thick, with 3-1/2" blades that have a touch of distal taper. The first features handle scales of red dyed and stabilized burl oak, and the second has stabilized Goncalo Alves. Just the slightest touch or finger grooves, and some scalloping before the butt allow for great control of the blade. Overall length is 8-1/4", and 4-3/4" handles.

The red oak was promised to a friend, and the Goncalo Alves was supposed to be for me for this upcoming deer season, except someone has insisted that they need it more than I do, and now I need to come up with another one before next month. Can't be a knifemaker and not use a new knife for deer season...

Thanks for looking.

Like I was telling Jack O'neil the other day, simple & clean can sometimes equal classy & elegant. These pieces do that in spades. I've always been a Goncalo Alves fan & that Oak is just red enough to give it some character. The finger grooves appear to just deep enough to use as an "index" point to let you know you're hand is in the proper position. Well done Matt.

Those are some super nice clean blades Matt. I'm not sure why but I'm really starting to like the look of full tang hunters more than hidden tang and these two are only adding to the reason why. Nice simple elegant blades. Nice work bro

Perfect size for a deer knife, and that red burl oak is some nice looking stuff. I laughed when I seen Tim's version, but now I don't know, it's starting to grow on me a bit I think.lol

Crispy clean. I dig them.
