A pattern and a keeper

I opined the other day in another thread about wanting a pattern for an EO or swell end jack. One of our wonderful members even pointed me towards an eBay auction. However, that knife would have been too nice to tear apart. I did find something even better! An Imperial EO jack just like the one I carry every day. My edc has nice bone covers and has nice blades with earned patina. This knife has composite covers with huge gaps, and the blades aren't nearly as nice. I don't feel bad at all taking this one apart. EO jack, here I come!

Now for the keeper. This one I got from the same seller as the EO. I wasn't really looking to buy another knife, but you know how it is. I'm a sucker for old ebony covered jacks. The maker was Lenox Knife Company out of Germany. I'm assuming they were a hardware store import knife, but I could be way off base. The info I've been able to find puts them at 1909-1920, which makes this knife my oldest at 93-104 years old. They blades have nice half stops and are heavy pulls. The main is about an 8 and the pen is an 8-9. 10 is nail breaking unopenable for me.

What I think is really cool is you can see where part of the pinned federal shield has worn away on the upper right corner. If this knife could talk!

I can see your appreciation for the heart of a knife. Enjoy your new ones,

Brian, that are two great looking knives. For sure, they might have their age-caused flaws. But that gives them their own great spirit :)

Enjoy them!
