Here is a teaser in the shape of 1 page from TIM HANCOCK's forthcoming
book - "The Art of the Western Bladesmith". The book's name, by the way,
was suggested by STeven Garsson at the last AKI Show in San Diego.

I'll be staying with Tim in Arizona for 10 days doing all the on-location
photography as well as photographing the whole process of making a
knife for the book, #1 of a series of 5 knives.

Eric Eggly of PointSeven will be shooting about 150 of Tim's knives,
sending me the Raw 122 MB files to clean up and create the illustrations
like the one shown here, made from three separate shots...

The knives will be displayed according to collections... These three
belong to Joe Jones.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

David, I will look forward to seeing your teasers as this special projects develops.

The two pieces from the right were sold @ Reno this past January. I only missed the beautiful fluted ivory take-down bowie and sheath by one draw. I had my fingers crossed that Joe would decline, but no such luck.

The silver concho on the sheath is not off the shelf, but hand carved by Tim.

If I remember correctly, the handle for the center fighter is checkered African Blackwood. Tim obviously does quite a few processes extremely well.

AWESOME!!!! :D

Can't wait to see more teasers and ultimately add this book to my collection David!!!

Thanks for sharing!!!

David,

Tim Hancock is the artist who furnishes inspiration for many of us who have chosen bladesmithing as our venue.

This will be (another) of your books I will stand in line to buy. Thanks to you and Tim!

John

Awesome!!! I wish there were a lot more books and videos out there. I would/do buy most of them. I also hope you are able to include some "how to" parts along with all the great photos of finished pieces.

Best,

John

I'm very much looking forward to this book.

Thanks for those posts!

This is going to be another book that I will have to get.

Hopefully we will get to see a few more photos, here, before the release of the book.

Love it! I've got a copy of your folding knife book and love it to death. My fiance just looked over my shoulder at first then she picked it up and read through it.

David -- wheeeeeooooo! Edmund Davidson and now Tim Hancock!!! I will have to move some more stuff out of my bookshelves I guess.

Dramatic style, design, size and knifemaking concept in Tim's knife art
is quite evident with the Ebony Cowboy Bowie, from the collection of
David Jones, and the two 6" Neck Knives made for his sons Ben and
Andy Jones......
While the Bowie is made of Tim's Double Trouble ladder pattern Damascus,
the two Neck Knives are made of ATS-34 steel, by stock removal.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

My favorite pieces from Tim Hancock are those large bowies he made for AKI. Here is one of those, photo by Coop:

I also like the hunter Kevin has in his folder. If you click on the link in his signature and go to fixed blades, you will find it.

As a side note, I wonder why Coop's pic is so clear whereas David's have so many artifacts. I realize this is not the photo itself. Maybe it's due to the way it was shrunk down to internet size?

There will be a display of about 150 of Tim's knives in the book.
Among these there will be quite a few amazing large Bowies.... :)

Joss, on my screen I see the two pictures I posted in very pleasing
clarity even though they are of course relatively low resolution images....
Can you be more specific?

All the best,

David,

Can you tell me what is the plan for selling the book?

On my screen, your 2 pictures have numerous artifacts and are pixilated. They look like a JPG that has been re-saved 200 times. It's most visible on my screen in the gradient of color of the background, and on the damascus of the big bowie on the 2nd pic.

Tim Hancock will be receiving all the books of the first printing to do with
whatever he likes. He will probably sell some and give quite a few to his
friends and family.
The book will be introduced at the 2009 BLADE Show in Atlanta, where
Tim will have quite a few copies on his table...

Joss, I am so sorry that you get a "scrambled" version of my pictures.
I tried two other computers and they come up beautifully. They are stored
on "My Foto Time" so maybe your connection to them is a problem?
They are at:
http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/pictures?userid={B28E5172-171A-43E2-A5F3-4E45535A3958}
Click on an image and then click on its larger display to get it full size...
But I suppose you probably know that...... :)

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
