Every once in a while you get an HI blade that just connects with you perfectly. I have been very lucky with some models, and the Jange is one of them. I waited early on to get one, and after missing quite a few of them last year finally snagged a USA wood beauty with some of the prettiest grain I have ever seen in wood (some kind of fancy figure walnut.)

Now that the Jange's are coming with full tangs, I waited quite a while and missed several of them on special, and finally snagged one that came last week. It is from this deal here:

This is one of those that just comes to your hand and doesn't want to leave. Gorgeous Neem wood with perfect carving. No overruns on the rings. The buttcap is a bit thicker than usual, with no burrs or sharp edges that need to be filed down, and my magnet tells me it is not just white metal but steel. The blade spine and edge are perfectly straight, and the handle is aligned with the blade. Bura's initials are beautifully done in script. The extra long handle fits me like a glove. Habaki bolster and although the cho could be a quarter inch closer, at 3/4" from the bolster it's not bad and looks balanced.

Finally, the scabbard is perfectly fitted with flawless leather, the karda and chakmak are each a full 7" in length with large handles, _and_ the blade came out with a great sharpened edge already on it!

At 20" and 27 oz. it makes a great match to the hidden tang 20" 33 oz. one I got last year. This one was worth the wait!

I'll try to post some pics today or tomorrow of the two together for comparison purposes.

Thanks,

Norm

Norm, you better put a second morgage on the home; I just talked to Yandu and new models are coming.

WE never had it so good. Next year ought to top them all.

Another Jange convert.

FWIW, I think that 27 ounces is a pretty good weight for one of these.

Or so bad! :D

I'm gonna have to sell off some more "old stuff" I guess, or just budget for one or two a month and try to keep up! Of course, there's always the chance that I'll hate all the new models and won't want any of them, right? (Yeah, and there's always a chance we'll be struck by a huge meteor and Bura and Sher will get eaten by a shark while swimming in the nearby ocean that forms in the impact crater...

Keeping my fingers crossed. :) )

Norm

PLEASE let them come out with a Kerambit!!! purty please?:D

New models?? Grrr being poor!!!

Already got my eye of one of those Jange's and AK's and they have more stuff coming???AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Norm, if you say it's perfect, well- I gotta see it! Post pix! Good weight/size ratio...

and if a meteor hits, the kamis will be pounding out meteor-iron khuks, and I might have to get a second job, but I'll have one.

No khuk money- the C&R rifles are going to break me. I've been reading Shotgun News for a long, long time, and now... hehehe... milsurps are coming my way.

Ad Astra is gonna have a love/hate relationship with UPS if he doesn't already.:p ;)

I may have to spring for a Jange myself as well.
But I'm thinking of a couple of special orders so I can get a couple closer to fitting me right out of the box.
For some odd reason the handles seem to be getting quite large again, good for some of you, bad for me but then I'm just a dwarf compared to some of you giants even if I am almost as big around.;) :D

Yes some HI handles are too big for me too.

And I'd like to see a more 'curvy' downward sloping handle as well. Shall be more comfortable and makes the blade more 'droppy' as well.

yea in 06 one of my fellow forum members is gonna come up off of a HI Kerambit...GOtta hope ya know??

Yea large handles dont do much for me either bro

I know what you guys mean about the large handles. I have big hands but the handle on the Sher movie model for instance is just huge. Length is good, but the diameter is too much. Good candidate to be pared down a bit.

However, Bura is making them longer which I like. On this one though I think it would fit you very well Yvsa. A good solid piece of wood and not too big around. I agree with Astro though and it would be nice for a bit more curve to the handes, but these are easy to get used to and feel good. I think that might be more of an esthetics thing as well.

This one fills your hand, but doesn't make you strain to hold it like some of the larger handles do.

Norm

I think if the handle curves a bit more ( like the antique khuks), the prommel is further away from the palm of hand, and makes the wrist-snap chopping motion easier.

Forgot to add........nice jange norm ! the neem wood looks different and good !

Somebody better sell leatherface a kerambit !

You're right Norm. I don't mind the length so much as I do the large diameters.
I am also a huge fan of the curved handles. The two old antique khukuris I got from AC have short curved handles that fit me perfectly and if I could I would have all my khuk handles made like that.
With the curved short handles it seems as if your hand just locks into them very securely and no extra length is needed.
Like I've said before, "I always thought I had pretty good sized hands until I started meeting some of the guys here."

Now that Miss Yangdu is back from vacation maybe Leatherface should email her and ask if anymore are going to be made.;) :D

The Movie Model has always had a very large handle. I like it. When a handle is long, I think it fits more styles of hold. That is good.

I have average hands and find the largest handles about right. The Hanuman is a little large, but that's OK. Too small is a lot harder to deal with then too large a diameter. As Norm notes, you can always pare it down.

You know, if Yangdu had a quick way of measuring diameter, she might be able to publish large/small on the DOD.

Love My Jange...

Handle too large.

I have a 12" villager AK with a handle that looks teeny. I love it. "Vive le villager!" Wish I could spring for one of those AC antiques. Not likely soon.

Should have some time to work on all these "projects" soon!

Yvsa,
Trust me bro, I am on the list:D :D

And since I fight underhanded like a girl (that and I have seen Zatoichi WAY to many times) it seems that a Kerambit or this thing called a Dankura (if I ever get a pic of one!) would be a natural choice...

Yea the fact that they look wicked doesnt hurt now does it??

If I wasnt planning on getting a 0.1.0 Hogg Island Boa (rp) early this coming year I would just have one made...BUT my babies gotta come first ya know??

So that plan is on hold for a month or two

Villager AK?? Where can I get one??;)
