Sometimes you get lucky on Ebay.
It looked like a nice old one, and a friend thought so too. So I bid and was lucky to win it. Wood guard, horn ferrule that split and was repaired with some twisted brass wire. 13 3/4" overall length, with a 9 1/8" blade, about 2" wide at the maximum. The blade was bright, but showed signs of some pattern, so I went through the etch/polish, etch/polish, etch routine, and it showed a very nice pattern. Enjoy.

Thanks for looking,
Steve Ferguson

Steve,
I'll let somebody else tell you what a great looking blade that is - me, I'm knocked out by the patina on the wood:eek:. Lovely piece; congrats!

Some guys have all the luck! I tried buying something off ebay and lost $950; their dispute resolution is a joke. I pursued it and the perp was convicted of mail fraud several states away. Small problem, the prosecutor 'forgot' to ask for restitution, so I'm out.......

Wow Steve nice one! I love thick bar lamination, so peasent but so classy! Ill take them over wootz anyday!

Juarrasic, does that mean you didnt pay via credit card through paypal? Normaly you cards legal department can get the money back of ebay easily.

Any other way of paying is a high risk venture.

If anyone deserves to get lucky Steve...

Great snag!

Damn! I have GOT to spend more time on Ebay, but first I guess you have to have the $ to spend, right? :D That is a beautiful piece of work.

But I have also been ripped off once on Ebay as well, and Jurrassic is right, they just blew it off in the end. I wish I had your eye in picking gems like this one out.

Steve

Congrats to you for owning such a beauty

Punal or Punyal is more a local version of short Philippine Kris in the southern part of Phillipine. It could not be found either in Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia or Southern Thai. Phillipine Kris (without "e") is considered as having few different features from other SEA Keris (with "e").

Punal/Punyal is also known as Gunong. Some of them has straight edge like yours while some others has wavy edge. One distinguish feature of Punal/Punyal/Gunong is the bulbous pistol grip style pommel. There exist also a single edged Punal/Punyal/Gunong.

Beautiful pieces Mohd. Thanks so much for posting them! I have several punal/gunong, but no singe edged. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one. Here's a few of my others, the last one is pretty much a tourist piece.
