Hello all,

I recently put together this target using 2x4s. Although it makes a great knife throwing target, my 'Hawks just will not stick! I guess 2x4s just do not make good 'hawk targets. Does anyone have an idea of what I can possibly nail to this target to make a good hawk target. I am assuming that plywood is too thin and hard. Any ideas? Thanks for the input.

Tree stumps make good targets because of the orientation of the grain in the wood. It's much easier to make your projectile stick when it can get in between the fibers, as opposed to cutting through them. This target, made of upright 2x4's, won't work as well. In order to get your hawk to stick, you'll need to throw it perfectly straight (so the edge "pushes" in between the grain) or throw it really hard.

Anyway, I don't know how you could re-orient the grain without completely tearing up the target, cutting the 2x4's into 18" pieces, and stacking them like bricks in a big circular shape, maybe binding them tightly together with rope and fixing them to a plywood base or something.

Just a thought...
