...And everything in it's place.

Anyone else OCD enough to make a case/ container with spots for their EDC gear?
I think I've got a project for tomorrow, and will probably try to find some felt or similar to line it with, once it is made out of wood.
Here's the basic layout of what I'm planning on.

Yup, I have OCD and I'm a pack-rat, which comes with the condition, I guess. I have a spot and/or location for everything I carry, and I can't stand it when things are moved. I'm in the process of reorganizing my knives and antique tools, and having a way to display them.

I have an old typesetter's drawer, which is an OCD person's dream. Makes an awesome, if large and shallow, shadowbox.

I also have an old hand-made eleven drawer chest that I'm restoring, and that's where all my "stuffs", (as my son says), like my knife collection, some antique tools, etc. will go when it's done.

thx - cpr

This got a couple views though few comments..
For those interested, here's a picture of the basic wood frame- plan to line it with some sort of cloth.

Looks good, xxguitarist! There's nothing "OCD" about building a fucntional, safe, storage place to keep your EDC stuff.

I've had my eye on a felt, tiered insert with areas like that for storing different knives.

Ikea sells it, and it nests in a shelving unit with overhead lights, and an optional glass door. It's a neat setup, but I can probably build better for cheaper!

Very interested to see how your project turns out! You could always drill some holes for the cords on the electronic devices, and attach a box for the cords underneath. I've seen similar "charging stations" for over $100.00.

That was the plan for my cell phone, actually!

This project won't cost me more than $30, despite the fact that wood prices have skyrocketed.
It's made of pine, so nothing special but quite adequate once painted/fabric lined.

While I don't think it's a problem for an overnight storage tray, you need to be a bit careful about felt in display cases. Most cheap felt -- the craft store stuff -- is not color-fast.

I was once shown a beautiful knife with excellent, genuine, elephant ivory inserts in the handle. But, when you turned the knife over, the ivory on the other side was bright green. The knife had sat for years and years in a display case on green felt and the dye from the felt had irrepairably stained the ivory.

You can get museum-grade felt, but not at the local craft store.

I did some shopping around the house & found a heavy cotton fabric that was used on a couch. I think I'll be using this to line it, instead of a felt.
It's gonna be FUN trying to get these pieces to conform to the bends of the framing, though!

I have a box that I throw my stuff into. It's pretty handy. I used to have my cell phone there, my wallet there...it was a mess.

In the course of many days, yes.. actually I do :D

The dark faced one is a "Relic" brand that I wear for surfing, beach, etc.
The light faced chrono is a Pulsar; also nothing special by the standards of many here, but it's much nicer than the relic. I wear it most of the time.
