Today was field day for my 12 year old son Travis, for his hunter safety course.
We arrived at COSA, The Central Oregon Shooting Range at 0745.
Beautiful morning at a great facility. This is not just your average gun range.
There are numerous setups for rifle and pistol shooting with one of the rifle sections going out to 1,000 yards, law enforcement area, cowboy shooting town, black powder range and trap area.
Anyway, When it was Travis' turn to shoot, his coach was a gentleman about 65 years young, very nice guy. After Trav fired his 10 shots, the ol boy asks if he wants his target ? Heck ya says Travis. So we head down range to check his score, he was pleasantly surprised to see that Trav already knew how to shoot and did quite well

.
So he pulls out his knife to cut the target off. Yahoo... A nice specimen of an early Case 6292. So the conversation changes from shooting to knives..
As we get back to the bench I find another instructor, a guy about my age, late 40's with a Schrade 8OT. I was in great company today carrying my old Red Bone 6207..
Then we move on to the field walk. This instructor I find out makes sheath knives and recurve bows. I'm lovin this day..
So I ask him about his knives. He will make any design a person wants, and uses 1095 and ATS-34, as well as doing his own sheaths...
After talking to him, I'm going to go over to his house sometime and look at the knives and the bows..
All in all it was a great day. Had a lot of fun watching Travis and was very proud of the way he handled himself at the range. I guess all the time I have spent since he was very little, teaching him gun safety paid off..
