I took a "break" from a whole bunch of leather work and put together some frontier knives (and a couple of sheaths!) during the last month or so of the year.....
Knives 1,2,5, & 6 are all built with blades by my old compadre Gib Guignard, RIP.
#1 is actually one for me! (guess which one will be the last to get a sheaths LOL!) and has a mule deer antler handle with cast pewter bolster and butt cap, and has a buffalo rawhide wrap. The 6.5" blade is based on an original SW skinner trade blade.
#2 is a SW dagger patterned after an original. The blade is 7.25". I has a wrought iron guard, front ferrule, and buttcap with a cast pewter ferrule at the rear. The grip is mesquite finished with my own period violin varnish.
#3 is my own handforged 7.75" blade (I do "maybe" one blade a year any more) made from an old (1890's) whip saw blade and patterned after the French trade boucheron's. The grip is Osage Orange with a buffalo rawhide wrap and cast pewter bolster.
#4 is a customer supplied blade, don't know the source, but a it's pretty good blade (I tested it enough to feel comfortable working on it - it's for the same guy who ordered #3) - brass guard, mule deer antler grip with a cast pewter buttcap, and a buffalo rawhide.
#5 is a 7.625" dagger blade with an Osage Orage grip, cast pewter bolster and decorated with brass tacks. This one is also based on an original.
#6 - is a small dag with a coyote jawbone and pewter grip covered with a buffalo rawhide grip.
Here's a couple of sheaths I got done too...
This gent wanted a frontier style combo sheath for a pair of knives by Dana Acker ( www.ackerforge.com )
This is the #5 knive all sheathed up in the style of the Cheyenne circa 1860
OOOPS! Happy new year and hope ya'll enjoy the look see............
