I took a "break" from a whole bunch of leather work and put together some frontier knives (and a couple of sheaths!) during the last month or so of the year.....

plethora-of-knives.jpg

Knives 1,2,5, & 6 are all built with blades by my old compadre Gib Guignard, RIP.
#1 is actually one for me! (guess which one will be the last to get a sheaths LOL!) and has a mule deer antler handle with cast pewter bolster and butt cap, and has a buffalo rawhide wrap. The 6.5" blade is based on an original SW skinner trade blade.
#2 is a SW dagger patterned after an original. The blade is 7.25". I has a wrought iron guard, front ferrule, and buttcap with a cast pewter ferrule at the rear. The grip is mesquite finished with my own period violin varnish.
#3 is my own handforged 7.75" blade (I do "maybe" one blade a year any more) made from an old (1890's) whip saw blade and patterned after the French trade boucheron's. The grip is Osage Orange with a buffalo rawhide wrap and cast pewter bolster.
#4 is a customer supplied blade, don't know the source, but a it's pretty good blade (I tested it enough to feel comfortable working on it - it's for the same guy who ordered #3) - brass guard, mule deer antler grip with a cast pewter buttcap, and a buffalo rawhide.
#5 is a 7.625" dagger blade with an Osage Orage grip, cast pewter bolster and decorated with brass tacks. This one is also based on an original.
#6 - is a small dag with a coyote jawbone and pewter grip covered with a buffalo rawhide grip.

Here's a couple of sheaths I got done too...
This gent wanted a frontier style combo sheath for a pair of knives by Dana Acker ( www.ackerforge.com )

Love your knives and sheaths. They are IMO, rustic done right.

This is my favorite pouch sheath of all time.

Very cool. The sheaths enhance each one well. I like the SW dagger a lot.

Nice pouch sheath. The inlays look like rattlesnake.

Man, you really worked hard! Each of these is unique, and all of them state WRTC loud, clear, and confident. The sheaths are just as impressive.

I can't NOT comment on how well your photography adds to the packages also. Really advanced skillzz. :D

Thanks for the post. Hope you are just as busy for 2008.

Coop

Looks like you've been busy partner! They all look great!

Are the knives by Dana recent, haven't seen any of his work for a spell?

Kevin, I am with you 100% of the way. Every time I see that picture I just have to stop and stare at it a moment.
It's just........ perfect.

Great work, I didn't even know you made knives as well as the great leather work you do. I have a shot from your web site as the wall paper on my screen and it get great comments. The number 4 is my fav of the knives you posted. Maybe you should take a break more often. Steven

I sure agree with you Kevin and Karl. That is one outstanding sheath and as Coop says, the phtography skills are top notch for sure. Not quite my type of knife but the sheath is absolutely fabulous and would be great with many knives.

Gald ya'll enjoyed the look see.
