Here's my favorite lama, Lama Dupthok Rinpoche. Great old fellow who knows what he's doing and why he's here.

First time I went to visit him years ago there were others waiting to see him. He came out, looked us all over, came over to me and bumped his forehead against mine, took me up to sit beside him and gave me some orange juice. The others, the faithful who came often, were upset. "Why do you take this man first over us. We are the faithful. He is a lousy queery, not a Buddhist, and a stranger."

"How far have you come to see me?" Dupthok asked.

"I came two kilometers."

"This man came 20,000 kilometers and because of this shows more devotion to his faith than you. This is why he is first."

When Pala learned that I was headed back to the hospital to face possible bypass surgery complications he went straight to see Lama Dupthok Rinpoche. Pala told Dupthok the story and asked if he remembered me. Dupthok assured him that he did remember me, closed his eyes and was silent for a minute or so, then told Pala, "Don't worry. This man's karma is not yet finished." Then he gave Pala this little medallion with his picture in it and told Pala to send it to me with the instructions to wear it around my neck, remember my old Lama well, do my puja faithfully and all would be just fine.

I did and it was. My old pal was right once again.

And my great thanks and blessings to you, old pal and Lama Dupchok.

What has this to do with khukuris? You guessed it.

Thankyou Uncle Bill. Reading it sent tingles threw me.:)

Great story Uncle! I wish I had so much luck! I also met a Tibetan lama, his name is Chime Rinpoche, also known as the 'Laughing Lama' (no kidding, he laughs a lot:)). The problem is that he lives in London and I'm in Warsaw, half a continent away. Can't say then if he's my spiritual teacher or not, because I'm not in contact with him. But I think about him a lot. Hope it works that way:)

One night a girl told me she was scared to death because they'd found a tumor in her abdomen on her x-rays and the next day they were going to do a biopsy and remove the tumor right then and there if it turned out to be malignant, and and and and...

I got her aside and gave her a multicolor cloisonne type medallion the size of a silver dollar that showed a dreamcatcher and the motto "In the spirit of love" on the obverse, and the "Great Spirit" prayer on the reverse. Just something to hang onto so she didn't feel alone.

The next night she comes bopping in and informs me she'd held onto it morning that morning up to and during the biopsy and they couldn't find the tumor. It disappeared. New x-rays didn't show it. She tried to give the medallion back, and I wouldn't take it. Told her if it was working for her, hang onto it! She didn't need much persuasion.

Seven years later she drops in and brings us up to date. The cancer had reappeared, been treated with chemotherapy, and she'd been in remission over 5 years now, she was now running a car dealership out of Vegas, etc.

I felt as if I'd found out the air conditioner in a building had been installed with too short a cord to plug into the wall socket, gone down to the hardware store and got a short extension cord, and used it to plug the durn thing in. That medallion I lent her was the extension cord between her and whomever/whatever is out there.

I know it happened as I've told you. I haven't the slightest understanding how or why or what happened. But something sure happened.

Great stories of spiritual contact. Uplifting and optimistic stories like this put me back in the correct frame of mind to keep going against the odds :)

Thanks again,

Jeff.

Laughing Lama makes me think of the Zen laugh. If practiced it is said to have stange curative powers. I wish I could understand how all this stuff works but I suppose you don't need to understand things to use them -- just like this computer.

If I'm confused I must be making progress. I hope!

I always wanted to study Zen archery but never did. Now I'm too old, weak and crippled to draw the bow. Life is full of should haves.

with himself, and thus the world. Good stuff!

Laughing llama...Laughing is fount ot be good fo you. One of the many things it does is release chemicals like endorphins into the blood, makes you feel good. As we all know feeling good can be all that matters...certainly.
