A Pocket Guide To Knives --

I found this site from a search for information about knife steel.

http://apg2k.hegewisch.net/index.html

Here's the link for the knife steel discussion -- which is excellent. But there are many other discussions on this site, with answers to questions I never thought about asking:

Not a shill here, and I don't have a dog in this race. This site seems a good source of information/discussion without any commercial motive.

Have you been to

OK o_O

One of the big pluses about BF is that it is not a "front" for any one maker. (As some other sites were, IMO...maybe you never went to them, DocJD DocJD ... I have been around a while.).

Sure, BF makes money.
People make money for themselves using it.
But "BF" doesn't make money for anybody but itself.

And, the information is better IMO than the info provided in the links above, AND the info is not just one guy's opinion.

Why go off to some other site?

BF is my most valued source of blade related information and just plain fun forum discussion with fellow knife knuts . And I have no problem with a commercial interest that protects it's sources of revenue . But please recognize that this does limit the free expression and interchange possible . I've accepted this reality as a condition and price of participation .

I hate to get too far off topic, but when has your right to express your opinion about a knife/product been suppressed on BF due to Spark and/or his staff having some vested interest in a particular maker/product? I have been here a long time and never seen that.

And don't say "clones," because that is not about protecting the financial interests of one maker, it is about protecting the existence of the entire industry that we are all, supposedly, passionate about.

And don't say "in the manufacturer's forums," because they, based on how their mods have chosen to run them, are for the fans to share their positive experiences about the brand. You have a beef with Brand X...you can always take it to GKD.

BF ain't all unicorns on rainbows pooping cinnamon rolls, but I have never seen "free expression and interchange" limited due to Spark's commercial interest in some product other than BF itself.

No commercial motive ??? :rolleyes::p
The servers don't pay to run themselves. And yeah, the mod staff is volunteer. Not sure this comment is needed.

In general, this community polices itself. Certain things become rules because we as a community don't want it here, clones for example. At the end of the day, this is one man's house. What he says goes. It isn't free for him to run this place. Some of us even pay him in order to help keep this place going, valuable resource and discussion forum as it is.

Indignant comments about this forum certainly don't keep the lights on.

I'd rather not see traffic driven away from this forum. That whole keeping the lights on thing. We can easily discuss this topic here. In fact, I'd argue all and much that is outlined in that guide is available here if one cares to search.

IMO this is another thread which started innocently enough and ended up an argument. SAD. :( Sometimes (too many) things get too serious.

My apologies to the OP for derailment .

Otherwise , if what I've said isn't true , please feel free to ignore . I'm done with it ! :(

If you wanna have some real fun here just start a strider thread lol. That’s always a good time.
