A pocket sheath for my ESEE RC 4.

So basically, I want one.
I like to carry my RC 4 as part of my edc, but it isn't practical
for a neck knife, and I don't like it on my belt(visibility). I thought
if I got a good pocket sheath I'd be happy with that, but I have
never had one before, and am not sure about them.
Only one I can find is by Sharp Shooter Systems. Looks like
thick leather. But no plastic liner that I can tell. I'm kind of paranoid
if I carried it, being as I am pretty active, that the knife may
cut into or through the leather. Or even my leg.

Anyone have any experience with these or any other suggestions?
All input welcome. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Just my two cents...a knife is a tool, and always important to have the right tool for the job, right?
I don't believe the ESEE 4 was meant to be a conceal carry knife...especially to be carried in your pocket.
I would recommend a folder.
Having said that, a well made leather or plastic sheath can be made to be carried inside the waist band without fear of cutting through the material.

If you want to conceal the esee 4, all you need to do is put the belt clip on it and carry it iwb. I did that yesterday without any problem and no one noticed.

If you want to pocket carry a fixed blade I would suggest the Izula. Significantly more pocket friendly. Or, if you really want that size, at least downsize to a ESEE 3, as that still holds the size but makes it a little more manageable.

However, there are plenty of craftsmen here who could make you what you desire for the 4.

Hope this helps.

put the knife in its factory kydex in your back pocket -- wear it around the house for a day and see what you think.

Thanks Rayban. That's probably true, but doesn't change that I want to.
I like having it with me, and I do use it a lot. As per concealment,
even here in the great state of Tennessee, the are people who get scared of anything bigger than
a Vic Classic. So I just keep it to myself until time to use it. I have plenty of folders, but no folder
can take the place of a good sheath knife. Just a different feel. Thanks for the input.

MAKnifenut, that's the thing. I have it iwb now. Have carried it this way for a long time(about a year).
Never had any problems as per concealment. More just a preference anyway. I just think, if the
sheath fits and carries like I hope, without being a safety hazard, I would prefer that method.
Thanks for responding

Thanks for the in put Supercoup.
I have a lot of smaller fixed blades. No Izula, but the ESEE 3, a BK14, a few Moras, etc. etc.
But I keep going back to the ESEE 4. The size isn't an issue. Except maybe for a neck
knife. But I just don't like that method in general.

1066vik. Been there, done that. I think it rattles, slides around and falls out of most pockets pretty easy.
Part of why I'm here with this thread.lol. Hoping that the leather would hold it upright and in place, while
keeping it separate from whatever else may be in my pocket. Just don't wanna bend over wrong one
day and find my knife in may thigh.

that works - had to ask, though.

hate to say it, but if you're putting it in a straight leather sheath, at some point in the future you would bend wrong and either punch a hole in your pants or your leg.
an alternate option would be a kydex reinforced sheath - at least wrap the bottom inch or so in kydex so the tip can't poke through if you fall or bend badly.
personally, I really like the Izula 2 -- handle is functionally very similar in length to the 3 and 4, but the of a large choil means the OAL is a lot shorter than an ESEE3 without losing the majority of the functionality, and it really does drop and hide in a front pocket quite nicely -- even in the factory sheath.

1066vik, yeah that's what I'm thinking too, and leather seems to be all I can find.

I've made pocket sheaths for the Esee 3 and it was almost too big. I can't imagine for the 4... Your best bet would be IWB.

Cal45. At first I'd said size wasn't an issue, but after I thought about it a bit more, it does look like
it would carry a bit different in the leather pocket type sheath, which might make it too big after all.

Well, seems that all the advice points against the idea, with a few valid points.
Looks like I'm gonna take the general advice and stick with the IWB.
Guess I'll get over it. Thanks for the input everyone. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for joining in Mr Rick. Actually, the brown version a little further down the
page on that link is the one I'd been eye-balling. Any chance it has a poly plastic
liner and I just didn't know? If it does I'd buy one.

Edit/add:Oh yeah, and for the record, that sure does look pretty with
that black sheath.
