Moran, Moran, wherefore art thous my Moran?
Twas it really three months since last time I did see thee?
With melted handle I did bade farewell
And expect thine polished face to return home in two fortnight.
Silly me! Why dost thou torture me so?
What was done to garner your rage?
Oh, Moran, please hear me this day
As we await to celebrate your return.
What adventures didst thou see in yon strange lands of Colorado?
Wilst your edge ever cut in these hands again?

I feel a lot of love in this room.

I gotta admit, I didn't know Shakespeare was a knife nut.

Oh yeah, Shakespeare was always talking about bare bodkins, which - I'm not making this up - meant unsheathed daggers.

Steve/Chiro75,

Out of curiousity, how did you melt your Spyderco Moran handle? It seems pretty durable. I purchased an older style one w/ leather sheath, after having handled my brother in law's. The Moran is a Sweet utility knife.

It's a day-to-day occurence for Morans to spontaneously combust.
Sal tries to keep it a secret, but it is commonly known.
Especially among amateur Kydex sheath craftsmen.

To answer your question, then knife actually belonged to a customer, and I was, as Yancy points out, making a sheath for it out of Kydex. I guess the 225-250 degree temp I used was a little too much for the handle and it put a heat crease on it toward the front. I got int touch with the customer who decided he ewanted a replacement, so I promptly bought a Moran at the full price, mailed it to him, and contaced Danelle and explained everything to her that had happened right up front. The note I sent with the knife had the same info in it, so I was 100% up front with Spyderco through the entire deal. This is the reason I haven't been vocal about getting the knife back, but after close to 3.5 months it is starting to get a little ridiculous, so I thought I'd bring it to attention in a manner everyone would think funny. I greatly appreciate Spyderco fixing what I admit is my mistake, and I haven't implied otherwise.
If, Yancy, you mean "amateur" as synonymous with "a guy working in his basement that has 3 million other things to do but this is a hobby and one he can make a little pocket money doing" then you are correct, I am an amateur. If you mean amateur in a derogatory way, then I invite you to look at my webpage and see the latest sheaths I've made and let me know what you think then. Thanks!

Chiro, I must admit that your sheath making ability has blossomed in a short time. I remember the first Kydex sheath you made for a Simonich kit knife that you put together.

Amateur? Chiro maybe an amteur sheathmaker, although they do look quite nice and well done to me. I emailed him with an inquiry about a folder sheath. I am still thinking about it. Yancy, if you met the term "amateur" in an insulting way, consider this. Chiro stated up front to the customer and Sypderco that he goofed. He immediatly replaced the customers knife with a new one. In my book, that is quite professional. Just my .02 cents.

The4th, you are right about that Concealex sheath for my Simonich! It was a valiant 1st effort, though, and it worked. It was just UGLY! I still have pics of it on my website if you want to get a good laugh. I redesigned that sheath over the weekend, actually, and it is pretty nice if I may say so myself. I wore it for a full day IWB at the bike shop and it was unobtrusive to say the least. In all fairness it took about two weeks for me to get the replacement knife to that customer, as I did shop around for as good a price as possible, but he seemed happy. The sheath turned out nicely, too.

Chiro - Sorry for the delay. It was an absurb amount of time to wait. Keith assures me that your knife was sent out last week. Let me know if you don't receive it.

We'll know better how to handle this problem should it happen again.

Really? Cool! It must be coming UPS, then. I forgot the other reason I didn't put up much fuss is because Keith wanted to see if the rubber could be fixed and I was happy to let him experiment. I'll review the results, Sal. I imagine that, due to the softness of the rubber, it won't be long in the future that people will wear it out and want it replaced. It's good to know that that service can be provided. Thanks again, Sal.

Chiro
No offense meant.
From your posts I got the idea that you were working in Kydex
in your spare time, for a few months.
To me, that makes you an amateur.
There is no shame in being an amateur.
It just means that you have a lot to learn.
I'm sure that cooking the Moran was a real learning experience.
Besides, I did call you a craftsman.
